Dan had a way with words. He and others knew it. He had a rich vocabulary and could find a word for almost everything. Yet when he tried to show the one person that he loved more than life itself how much he meant to him, he was at a loss for words. He could not just tell him. He always thought that simple words could not comprehend so much love. At least not spoken words. So one day Dan sits down and writes a letter to his one and only. He spends days writing it and perfecting it. He carried around a little note book to write down anything that came to mind. He spends a week on the letter when it's finished. He's happy with it, but can't help but feel insecure. He wanders through their apartment looking for Phil. He finds his boyfriend on the couch, scrolling through Tubmlr. "Phil?" Dan asks, breaking the silence. "Hm?" Phil hums looking away from his computer. "Could you come sit down with me?" Dan asks serious. "Yeah sure." Phil replies standing up. They sat down at the table opposite of each other. Phil saw that Dan was holding a folded paper. "What's going on ?" Phil asks timidly. "Could you just read this ? Don't ask any questions or say anything until you've read the whole thing, please?" Dan asks with pleading eyes. Phil nods and Dan hands him the paper. The blue eyed man unfolds it and starts to read:
Dear Phil
I am not perfect.
I am no daredevil.
Dare I say you are my world ?
Dare I wonder who needs the stars, sun or moon when you shine just as bright ?
Dare I think you are the most beautiful person I have ever laid eyes upon ?
Dare I doubt you love me?
Dare I fall in love even more?
Dare I smile at your goofiness?
Dare I laugh at you clumsiness?
Or dare I say I love you?
I am doubtful
I doubt all things real or surreal.
I doubt the current world.
I doubt that the sun burns.
I doubt your loving words.
I doubt myself.
I doubt my own life sometimes.
But one thing I do not doubt and that is that I love you.
I am needy
I need air so you can take my breath away.
I need the sun so it can shine upon you and make you smile.
I need the moon so it can reflect in your blue eyes.
I need the thunder to break open the sky so that I can hold you in my arms and make you feel safe.
I need my life so that I can share it with you.
I need a pen and paper, perhaps even my whole heart to say I love you.
Maybe these words are not enough to show you my love. But I will try to show how much you mean to me every day.
I will laugh at all of your silly jokes.
I will hold you when a fictional friend dies.
I will make pancakes with you on early mornings and late Sundays.
I will take care of you when you get ill because you forgot your jacket once again.
I will wake up at seven to take a package from the postman so that you don't have to get up.
I will do everything you want or need from me.
All I need from you, without any doubt, to accept my braveness and daring is a simple answer to my question. Will you marry me?
Yours truly Dan
Dan saw that Phil was done reading when he gasped. Dan got up and went down on one knee and opened a black velvet black revealing a simple silver ring with cat whiskers engraved in them. Phil finally looked away from the paper to Dan his eyes were full of tears. " So will you?" Dan asked. "Yes! Of course I will!" Phil exclaimed pulling Dan into a hug. Dan was shaking when he put the ring on Phil's finger. Phil kissed Dan and pulled him back into the hug. He then whispered in Dan's ear "Dare I doubt to need you in my life? If I ever do, you will have to kill me for not a single thought in my mind doubts that I love you too."
