AN: I don't own anything. I'm sorry if its a little dodge. It just kinda came to me when I was thinking of one of my friends whos been deployed. Then I thought of all my friends who serve. To them I am truly greatful, and I couldn't ask for a better bunch to be protecting our country and our shores. I hope you enjoy it, but I'm open to feedback positive and negative :) If I can fix it, let me know. English has never been my best subject ... even if I've spoken it since the day I was born. I used to stand tall, as proud as can be,
As I sailed the oceans, protected our seas.
Then the drums calling duty beat their steady swift beat,
And without hesitation I was up on my feet.
Though fear did swell, in courage I stood,
A moment. A moment … is all that I could.
Now no echoes fall silent, and no shadows I cast.
For my spirit still lingers, protecting the mark.
Those men at my funeral, my comrades in Arms.
But oblivious my nation, to a hero's death march.
I protected their oceans, no judgement I hold.
For this was my duty, and my story was told.
A picture. A memory. That's all that remain.
And a cold grey stone stating on this earth I once stayed.
To my family, I'm sorry, but I have no regrets.
