A Day at the Beach

Disclaimer - I do not own the Sailor Moon Franchise. But you knew that.

Note - This is my first Sailor Moon fic so bear with me. It's a short one-shot fic, based on a comic that appeared in one of the Archie Comics Digest magazines. I just flip-flopped the genders and used the same basic plot.

It was a beautiful sunny day as two 14-year-old girls in swimsuits, Serena Tsukino and Amy Anderson, searched for a spot on the beach to lay their stuff down. Finding an open area near a small sand dune and a few feet from shore, blue-haired Amy dropped her duffel bag. "This looks like as good a place as any, Serena," she said to her friend.

"Yeah," agreed Serena, whose beautiful long blond hair was done up in little buns on each side of her head, with the pigtails trailing down almost past her waist. The unusual hairstyle, which was her trademark, often earned her the nickname Meatball-Head. "This'll work, especially since we won't be spending much time here,"

Amy nodded. "So what do you want to do first?"

"How about waterskiing? I've seen some pros do it on TV and it looks so cool!" Serena looked excited at the thought.

Amy couldn't help getting a mental picture of her klutzy friend falling several times before the boat's engine even started. "I don't know, Serena," she said skeptically. "I was thinking of something a little...calmer, like plain old swimming."

"Aw, c'mon Amy, where's your sense of adventure? Hmm...ok, well how about some jogging to start? We'll run down the beach and see if we meet anyone we know."

"Well, maybe." The intelligent blue-haired girl considered the idea. "There are a lot of choices, and we do have the whole day."

Serena spotted something in the distance and suddenly began jumping with excitement. "Ooo, I've got a better idea, how about we go to that snack stand over there! Lita says the hot dogs they sell on this beach are sensational!"

Amy smiled at her friend's love of food, and enthusiasm for life in general. Then it was her turn to notice something. She heard voices coming from the other side of the sand dune. Male voices. Curious, she quieted Serena and craned her neck to see over to the other side. Serena did the same, wondering what Amy was looking at.

Three male friends of the girls, Darien, Andrew, and Greg, along with several other guys they'd seen before in the local arcade, were setting up a volleyball net and choosing up sides. They all had shorts on, and a few also sported muscle shirts, but most were shirtless.

"C'mon guys, let's get going," Andrew encouraged.

"Yeah," agreed Darien. "I feel like I could play all day!"

Unknown to them, two girls were watching them just a few feet away with hearts in their eyes.

"THOSE guys are going to play beach volleyball right HERE?" Serena couldn't believe their good fortune.

"You know, Serena, who needs to go anywhere? This place is perfect," Amy grinned.
