This is something I wrote a while ago and to be honest I forgot about it. I had struggled to find an ending but I think this works. I hope you enjoy and please leave a review. I have proof read but I'm not great at finding mistakes in my own work so I apologise if I have missed any.

In the years to come Albus would fail to forget the pride in Hagrid's voice as knocked, or rather thumped, on his door that July evening.

"Professor, Professor Dumbledore Sir, I'm back" Hagrid spoke loudly through Albus' thick office door.

"I can see that" Dumbledore chuckled "and do come in Hagrid"

"Thank you, Professor Dumbledore, I got the letter to him and helped him get all his school things" Hagrid's chest was puffed up so high in pride that Dumbledore had to wonder if he would need to deflate him.

"Well done Hagrid and the Dursley's?" he asked his hart already sinking at the look of annoyance that crossed the bigger man's face.

"Worse than you thought, Professor Dumbledore, Sir" Hagrid replied his head shaking. "Harry didn't even know that he was a wizard" And quiet suddenly to Dumbledore's concern Hagrid began to sob so loudly that his desk began to shake. "They told him James and Lily died in a car crash, imagine the Potters killed in a muggle thingy, the Potters! And the real thing isn't no better. I'm sorry sir it isn't my place but I had to tell him, jus' couldn't let one of the kids tell him on the train." Hagrid said this all quite slowly through a great deal of tears and hiccoughing. Dumbledore let him finish before he conjured a large handkerchief and directed his to the seat in front of his desk and allowed Hagrid to compose himself before speaking.

"You did the right thing telling Harry, he certainly needs to know but may I ask how detailed were you?"

"not very sir" Hagrid sniffed "Jus' said you know who was a wizard that went bad and wanted to kill his parents because they were good in all, also said it was surprisin' he survived"

"that's very good all he needs to know for now by any means said Dumbledore" who was clearly deep in thought. Hagrid however did not appear to notice and blew his nose loudly and muttered "imagine not knowing" This appeared to break Dumbledore away from a faraway thought.

"Petunia and Vernon could have done much worse Hagrid, they could have told him but convinced Harry all magic was evil and to be perfectly honest I couldn't blame Petunia if she had reacted that way after happened to her family. Harry will learn soon enough just like his mother." Dumbledore finished his sentence with a rather wistful look on his face but his attention soon returned to Hagrid.

"and Harry's wellbeing"

"Seems healthy small kid, skinny…sweet though lot like Lily" Hagrid chuckled should have seen his face when we got to Diagon Alley and when he saw all the people at the Leaky, looks exactly like James, Lily's eyes though." Albus smiled at that.

"Well then now we just have to get down to the business of teaching Harry all about the wizarding world" Professor Dumbledore smiled "I'm sure I can count on you to help me keep an eye on him Hagrid?" Once again Hagrid held his head high, puffed out his chest and smiled down at the professor."

"Of course, professor sir"

"Excellent, now you had better get back to Fang I popped down to see him earlier this afternoon to see him and he seemed quite let down to see it wasn't you who had woken him from his nap"

Hagrid grinned back at Dumbledore and made towards the door.

"Thank you, Professor Dumbledore sir"

"No thank you Hagrid I really appreciate it" And after blowing his nose once more Hagrid was gone and the office was silent. Dumbledore sighed as picked his quill and returned to his letter. The conversation had told him quite a bit more than Hagrid realised.
