Hello my lovelies! It is fall break of my senior year in high school, and I just had my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. I haven't updated anything in so long I decided that while I am on break and recovering I at least needed to write a one shot or something. This was an idea I had awhile back for a multi-chapter, but instead I am writing this as a one-shot. Please read, review, and enjoy!
Grow Up
The tension in the room could be cut with a knife, and Hawkeye wasn't sure Edward wouldn't transmute one at any moment now.
Once again, Colonel Roy Mustang has shot off a smart comment towards Edward, leaving him full of disdain and disreguard towards his superior.
"All you've done since you've joined the military is wallow in self pity and whine like a baby," Mustang barked, "Stand up and be a man Fullmetal, this isn't childish fun and games anymore!"
Edwards tone dropped almost to a growl as he responded, the anger clearly visible in his eyes, "I am standing up and being a man. I've been the only person standing up for what's left of my family for a long time! How much fun do you think I had when my mother died and I was the only one left to find a way to provide for Al and me? Do you think, I had so much fun when I was driven mad in my own desperation to bring our mother back that I decided to make life altering decisions for Alphonse and myself?" Edward inched closer to Mustang word by word, "How much fun do you think we had researching taboo for MONTHS and training our selves mind and body? The tourture we have endured since that night? How much fundo you think I had when our transmutation went wrong and I stared the gate down, knowing that if I wasn't willing to sacrifice my entire being to the gate that Al's chances of surviving were inconcieveable."
Edward now stood virtually nose to nose with Mustang, despite the fact he had to stare up at him, "I grew up a long time ago Mustang. You may be my superior, but I am definitely not your puppet, and don't think for a second I am you friend." He spat.
Mustang stood firm, not moving on his stance, yet not saying a word either. He and Ed both knew what things had just become between them, and the boundary he had just crossed.
Ed tore his gaze away from Mustang and walked towards the door, leaving Hawkeye and Mustang alone in the room.
"Roy," she spoke softly, her tone not signifying weakness, but of the strength she had that didn't allow her to immediately jump down his throat.
"I know," he said. Things would now be a lot harder for him now, especially trying to protect Edward from the things after him.
Edward on the other hand, after the office door slammed shut behind him, made his way to the bathroom to be alone before confronting Al with the news that they were going to have to leave their research once again to complete an assignment for Mustang.
He splashed his face with water, wiping the remaining water from his face with his sleeve, and looked into the bathroom mirror. His fiery golden eyes stared back at him, somewhat self loathing. They reminded him of the gate, and the freedom that was torn from himself and Alphonse. A constant reminder that he was not free from the mistakes of his past, nor the duties he must now fulfill as a dog of the state.
"But my eye's reminded me I'm not free..." Newsboys -Born Again
