Prologue

Wands are peculiar creatures indeed, most of all because they are not considered to be creatures at all. Witches and Wizards of all kinds see them only a tools, meant to embrace the magic of their Master that they may help them mold and manipulate the most unpredictable bits of nature into whatever their owner should so desire.

Oh how idly do they sit, tucked away in their little boxes in some dusty room with an unknown destiny in their so-called little minds. Some are wrapped up so nicely, the fine silk caressing their every curve and groove, giving them the nicest place to rest and lay in wait of their new companion. Others are wrapped in cheaper cloth, perhaps a simple cotton that allows them to lay in cushioned paradise and resting at their own leisure. Yet still some are trapped in a sheer fabric that may not cause them to have the urge to itch but certainly does so very little to cushion them from the harsh and hard lines of their box. The last of these gets so little rest it's little wonder they are angry and full of fire once the fingers of their new Master are laid upon the wood.

In truth it could be said that the only one who truly understands a wand, and the intent therein, is the craftsman that fashions that particular wand. However even Mr. Ollivander will tell you that a wand may change its mind at a moment's notice, just as the human heart and soul may choose an alliance and change said alliance after a betrayal, so may a wand do the same when it has been 'betrayed' by its Master.

Now delving into the mind and intent of wands is just as complicated as delving into the mind and intent of a human being. Some bear an ill intent while others have a mischievous spirit hidden away. So very few wands have proper names, it's rather sad honestly, for every wand is as unique to one another as one person is to one another.

Most may go their entire lives never knowing the deep desires of their wand, yet the time when a wand's own consciousness is most well known are when the witch or wizard are going their their years of school. For as the witch and wizard discover themselves and their own fate and desires, so too does the wand. Of course, like any curious child and teenager, the best moments are when the wand chooses not to listen, to teach its master a lesson, or even to simply play a prank.
