Power Struggle

A Farscape Fanfic by Andromon X

Disclaimer: I do not own Farscape. However, I do worship Scorpius and love his fashion sense. Black goes with anything.

(Scorpy vs. Maldis)

"My name," said the malignant being," is Maldis.

"Hello, Maldis," said Scorpius with that same deathly air of calm he always had, "why have you brought me here?"

"You'll figure it out on your own," said Maldis as he vanished.

Scorpius took a look around. The bleak surroundings suited him. But then, almost any surroundings suited him.

What manner of foe, Scorpius wondered, is this?

No matter. The outcome was, as always, perfectly certain. It was only a matter of time.

"Are you so certain of that, Scorpius?" asked Maldis.

"Yes, Maldis," replied Scorpius, "I am."

Maldis was annoyed. Anyone else would have been shaken by that, but Scorpius was calm. Too calm.

Calm as death, Maldis thought with a smile.

Maldis had brought the mutant here because he seemed so brimming with life to take away, powers of destruction Maldis could claim as his own.

"But you underestimated me, didn't you?" asked Scorpius with a smile.

Maldis scowled. Scorpius would have to be a telepath...

"In fact, you brought me here because you feed off death, only to find that you can' get the reaction you need to be able to begin draining me. I'm too calm. Calm as the grave, you might say," continued Scorpius with a smile.

"I'll win this yet," said Maldis.

Scorpius just smiled and begun to explore his surroundings. He'd seen Maldis in Crighton's memories. Knowing his foe, combined with the mental powers of his Scarran half, would aid in this contest.

But most importantly, he had something Maldis did not. He had patience.

Scorpius smiled as he ran his hands idly through a vat of acid that Maldis had left out. Nothing to do but wait.

But that's all he needed to do.

"It might interest you," said Maldis, "to know that I've been inside the human's head as well... Maybe I know the secrets you seek."

At this, Scorpius turned to face his opponent. He was almost ready to demand them, but he regained his composure. Scorpius knew the game. And from the look of fatigue on Maldis's face, he knew he was winning. "You're bluffing, Maldis," said Scorpius.

"Clever freak," said Maldis.

"Thank you," said Scorpius.

Damn it, though Maldis, I'm not going to let him win! But he's clever... No one's been able to starve me out for as long as I can remember.

"You're too weak to continue, Maldis," observed Scorpius.

It was true. Maldis had no energy. He didn't just look tired. He was visibly fading away.

"Better luck next time," said Scorpius as he nonchalantly sliced Maldis in two with one of the various swords lying around.

Scorpius awoke to see a medic standing over him.

"Are you all right?" asked the confused medic. "You were nearly dead just moments ago.

"Someone was trying to play mind games with me," said Scorpius calmly.

"And what happened?"

At this, Scorpius smiled. "I won," he said.

The end.
