They were not a couple.
Some people might thought they were but they were not. Not that they didn't want to be, God knows how much they wanted! But they were not.
They were born soul mates, star-crossed lovers, and they knew that. Even, sometimes, they had a sort of intimacy. Of course, not a real couple intimacy, but still, they had these little moments where they were in their bubble, completely absorbed. Where the world beside them doesn't exist anymore. And then, inevitably, something brings them back to reality.
The horrible, disappointing reality: they cannot be together.
