A nice short one shot. Takes place partly in the episode of Silence in the library and Forest of the Dead in the Doctor Who series. Where River has sacrificed her life to save everyone else in the library and it's just the Tenth doctor and his thoughts of what has just happened, on this strange and unexpected woman who walk in his life to then die in front of him. P.S This is my first Doctor Who fanfic so it's not gonna be really good, but I wanted to give it a go. ^_^

Here he was, sitting down on the concrete floor, handcuffed to a metal pipe looking on to where the empty seat just incinerated a person out of existence just to save them all.

He wasn't sure what he should feel right now.

A mysterious woman named Professor River Song showed up in the library.

She knew things of his future, she knew his true name and she had his screwdriver. Updated sonic, but his nether the less.

His screwdriver, the one that he keeps close to him and only him.

I gave her my Screwdriver, Why? Why would I do that?!

She looked at him with a haunting familiarity, that made him feel afraid.

He would never admit it to anyone but then there it is.

Fear, knowing that there was a person that had managed to break through his complexity of identity.

And now she's gone. Just like that. She was there and now she isn't.

In one single Zap.

He felt… what did he feel?

Nothing? No that's not it! Broken, lost, defeated?

Possibly. But why? I had only known her for a short while, practically a day. Yet here comes a woman from the future, making him question what kind of man he will be and what will he will be to her. A hero, an ally, a lover, a friend?

He recalled those key moments like a tape, her expression of awe that she gave him when she touched his face, the hard tone she gave him when she was upset, that he was going to never be in her future, but finally the torn look of despair in her last smile she had when she let go of his eyes and clicked the plug.

She was the answers to his future but now she's gone.

He was never going to know. He was just going to be….

It took him a few seconds to figure it out and then he knew.

It was like there was a gaping hole. Like something missing. Or something he should of known even now. Not his Future self. Present him. Right now that he should have figured out by now.

I don't know what do?

*Flashback*

"Who are you?" he asked her as River searched her backbag for something.

"Professor River Song university….. she began.

"To me" he interrupted her "Who are you to me?" looking at her seriously.

She sighed her head up "Again…" she answered, "spoilers" looking at him.

*Flashback ended*

The doctor sighed sadly on the floor. Spoilers he thought, spoilers indeed.

Authors Note

I don't know why I wrote this. I really don't know. I just find this a compelling episode. I just keep watching it over and over again.

Reading faces of determining what a character is feeling without dialogue is so interesting to me. Maybe that's why I had to. Well if someone actually read this. Thanks….I think. Hah! XDXD
