The day had started out as being a warm calm day, but now afternoon had reached its peak and the day was hot and humid. Shadow wiped his arm across his forehead in an attempt to get rid of the sweat that clung to his fur and threatened to drip off into his eyes. This weather he didn't like at all.
In fact, he despised it.
His dark fur did not help in reflecting the heat so he'd spent the morning lazy, lounging on a windowsill in his apartment. Eventually though the heat had been too much due to the sun moving around through the course of the day. Shadow had thought that maybe he could perhaps go someplace elsewhere that was quiet... maybe like Rouge's new beach house that she had purchased a couple of months ago. She was never there regardless, her days spent at Club Rouge and she did not get home until the early hours of the morning (and then sleeping in until lunch).
This was when Shadow made the decision to actually go, leaping out the window and landing in a racing position. He then took off with a boost of speed as his shoes kicked in. Winding around through the streets of the city, he finally passed through the suburb on the footpath - causing the occasional pedestrian to gasp or to brush down uplifted skirts.
Two minutes later, he skidded slightly to a stop at the coastal property. Eyes scanned his destination for a desirable place to relax and soon laid on a deck chair facing the beach.
It was nicer around here, with the salty-scented breeze cooling the sweat on his fur, a large tree halting the sun from overheating him.
Shadow's thoughts soon became a blur as he fell asleep.
Shadow woke up with a start and fell out of his chair rather violently; a horribly loud sonic boom woke him up again. However, the fact that he thought it was loud was most likely due to his peace being disturbed so suddenly- by the only other hedgehog on the planet with the ability to reach those speeds.
Yawning and rubbing at the sleep that blurred his vision, Shadow took a glance to see a long line where sand was just settling back onto the beach.
'Damn that hedgehog,' he cursed with a glare in the horizon where a small blue blur still raced. Shadow had been enjoying a dream that he'd been having although now he could not even remember what it had been about, though he had a feeling it was some memory of him and Maria.
A/N: An unfinished story I found on my old computer, written circa 2008 (hence awful syntax and such). I'd like to know where I was going with this but I no longer have the planning file. Probably won't get completed? Maybe it will inspire someone ;p
