Got Your Back
The battle cries and yells of familiar voices reverberated in the air, the dull clang of metal on metal and sharp whistle of weapons slicing through air all teamed with the heat and energy of materia magic, all hanging in a low static tension around them.
The players all spin and dance to the deadly music of the fight, both the Turks and AVALANCHE on the same side, animosity put aside in light of the common foe. Rubble littering the ground and lights flickering and snapping between black and white, casting shadow and shine, glinting off steel and reflecting back blindingly.
Twisting at the sound of a pained shout aquamarine eyes scan the crowd, searching through the chaos for the source he knows better than he should, electricity crackling throughout the length of the nightstick held tight at his side. He is tense and wary of everything at once, fingers twitching in anticipation.
To one side he see the sturdy reliable from of his partner, dark suit still unruffled, shades still concealing the concentration in his eyes as he moves methodically round, taking out each enemy in his way in turn. Darting light-footed further across to his left the young blond, aiming, shooting, reloading and moving on, diving and ducking. Both safe.
Across the field another form slumps to the ground, head bowed and weapon held up in attempted defence against the beast that has her pinned. His heart skips a beat.
His free hand goes to the materia stored in his pocket and he slips it into the slot on his weapon to control its power, removing the previous one first, and hits it to the ground send a tremor towards the two figures locked in a combat of will and strength, hoping to unbalance the beast and give the young woman a chance to regain her sure footing.
Catching the sharp noise coming up behind him he spins back, not knowing if his attempted rescue had worked, switching the materia back round as he does so, and gets ready to crack his electric charged weapon through the creature jumping towards him now in mid attack.
It is defeated and gone before even landing its blow. Then again neither had he landed his as a bolt of lightning had shot past his shoulder at speed to do the job for him, barely missing hitting him.
At this the red head with the aquamarine eyes grins and dives back into battle with his two suited dark companions, throwing a glance back over at the one who'd saved him before he could save himself.
A quick flash of a smile written in warm brown eyes across the battlefield and wave of a shuriken covered and disguised by changing to a throw to head off the next attacker heading her way was all he needed to know.
Safe.
The shout had been hers but she was safe.
His attack must have worked and then she'd paid him back the favour as they always did one way or another, their comrades oblivious to the brief exchange that spoke more than words.
Neither side would ever allow it and they knew it. He was to go back to being their enemy after this, it was his job, but secrets could be kept and it was always good to know someone had your back in battle, even if it was from opposite sides of the line.
