Harvey peered through the glass door that separated him from the constant subject of his attention lately. Her red hair seemed to glow in the dim, late night lights of the firm. Her eyes were cast down, fingers tapping a small blue pen as she analyzed the files spread out in front of her, biting the corner of her lip in concentration, a quirk Harvey had noticed years ago.
He knocked gently on the glass, noticing how her expression seemed to soften as their eyes met.
"Hey you" he mumbled.
"Don't 'hey you' me" she huffed in annoyance, regaining control of her expressions, and pretending to returning her attention to the work beneath her.
"I owe you an apology."
She perked up, eyeing him suspiciously as she leaned back in her chair, "Go on."
"I'm sorry." He breathed, barely audible.
"For what." She hissed, standing up and moving around the desk, facing him, eye to eye.
"I'm sorry for disregarding the work you do for this firm, not just for me and I'm sorry for undermining your integrity. You're not a liar Donna. And I'm sorry I almost made you out to be one."
She expelled a shaky breath. Guilt flushed through her veins, causing her to drop her gaze to the floor, suddenly too ashamed to look at him. She knew her lies would catch up with her, it was only a matter of time.
"I'm sorry too." She choked on the tears that threatened to fall, the waver in her voice betraying.
"Hey," he beckoned in a soft voice, reserved especially for her and placing a hand over her own, "you have nothing to be sorry for, it was all me, okay?"
"No-" she whispered, still refusing to meeting his eyes, "I- I lied to you."
"What? When?" He was growing more concerned now, "it's okay, you can tell me. I promise I not to be mad."
"I lied," she sniffled, raising her head slowly, staring up at him through her fluttering eyelashes, "I told you that I didn't feel anything when I- when I kissed you. It's not true-" her voice shook and cracked pitifully, a stray tear escaping, sliding slowly over the contours of her face, "I'm sorry." She dropped her eyes again.
"Well in that case," he replied, moving his other hand until his forefinger rested beneath her chin, gently coaxing her gaze back to meet his, "I guess I owe you another apology."
Her face creased with confusion, her eyes seemed to glimmer with curiosity, "what do you mean-"
Before she could react, his lips came crashing down on hers, his hand running along her spine, while they other rested against her cheek. She moved her own to the back of his neck, feeling the short soft hair at the back of his head as she pulled him forward, deepening the kiss. Both falling into a familiar pattern, in the same place where, months before, their lips had met for the first time in years.
This time, however, it was Harvey who broke the embrace, leaning back only slightly, watching as her eyes fluttered back open, immediately scanning his for an indication of his reaction.
"I'm sorry Donna," he paused, noticing how her breath caught at the words, "when I said 'I didn't want more' I lied to you. I want everything."
"Everything?" She questioned, a small smile beginning to play on her lips.
"Everything."
She threw her arms around him, burying her face in his chest, her ear pressed to his heightened heart beat, as his chin rested on the crown of her head, placing a small kiss there before tightening the embrace.
"What happens now?" She breathed, nuzzling her body closer to his, "where do we go from here?"
He sighed, "I don't know." He began absentmindedly tracing patterns along her back, "but we'll figure it out together."
