Arthur walked into the Physician's chambers and saw the destruction.
There were still the things on the floor from earlier when Aredian had ordered the destruction to find magical objects.
Arthur found Merlin crouched in the middle of the room, a torn up blanket around his shaking shoulders, papers and sand and glass surrounding him.
He moved the pieces of glass that were next to the body of his manservant and sat down cross legged. He stared at Merlin, who was crying into his knees.
'Merlin.' He said awkwardly.
He reached out to touch the other boy's shoulder, but he had flinched away before Arthur could make contact.
'It's my fault.' Arthur made out.
'How is it?' Arthur asked incredulously.
'The woman, she said that I saw it.' Merlin looked up. 'Aredian thinks that I'm a sorcerer and he's going after Gaius. He's still going to come after me. Gaius is protecting me.'
'We know that Gaius isn't a sorcerer, but if Aredian gets him to confess, then he's in trouble.' Arthur said.
'And he will. He will confess.' Merlin said, catching Arthur's eyes. 'To save me.'
'I don't think that you're that important Merlin,' Arthur laughed.
Merlin's eyes watered, before he looked away.
'I'm sorry Merlin.' Arthur said quietly. 'I know that he's important to you.'
His servant nodded, still not looking at him.
Arthur reached for his shoulder again, this time Merlin staying still, and Arthur grabbed him gently. 'We will figure something out.'
Merlin nodded, dropping his eyes to the floor.
