"Logan?" Veronica asked.

When she decided to go to Miami for vacation, after a hard semester at Stanford, she never thought she'd run into her old boyfriend.

"Hey." His eyes appraised her with appreciation. "Wow. You look great."

Veronica fought her blush. "You too. Um, I heard about the Air Force. Have to admit, I never thought of you as a military man."

He scratched the back of his head. "Yeah. If sixteen-year-old me told twenty-four-year-old me that I would be going into the Air Force, I probably would have punched myself. But the discipline was good for me. It was what I needed. So, how's law school?"

"Good. Tiring. I'm here to try to relax and recharge before next semester." She looked around the hotel lobby. "So, you're staying here at the Red Roof Inn as well?"

Logan shrugged. "Yeah. I'm room 302."

Veronica laughed. "Fate has an odd sense of humor. I'm 304."

He pointed to the elevator. "I should get going. Since we're neighbors, I'll probably see you around?"

She watched him leave and wondered how it got to the point that a simple conversation was so awkward between them.

That night, she couldn't sleep. She didn't know why, but her mind wouldn't shut off. And unfortunately, one night was on repeat. It was a night she spent on a roof of a very different hotel. Maybe it was because the anniversary of that night was only a week away, and she had seen Logan after years of radio silence.

After two hours of tossing and turning, she gave up. She got out of bed, grabbed her robe, and went to the door to her room. She went out into the hallway and walked to room 302. She knocked and waited patiently for the door opened.

Logan opened it. "For some reason, I'm not that surprised to see you here."

She shrugged. "I couldn't sleep."

"I know what night is coming up. I've been wondering how you've been dealing with certain anniversaries since Hearst."

"Can I come in?"

He grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the bed. "I hate to be rude, but I'm exhausted. It was a long day of traveling to get here? Do you mind us just going to sleep?"

"Me sleeping in here?" she asked.

"Isn't that why you're here? So I can help you sleep?"

"I'm actually not quite sure why I came here," Veronica admitted.

Logan kissed her forehead. "Come on."

They got under the covers together, and she sighed when he pulled her against his body with her facing him. "Logan, I'm not sure anything is going to change."

"Shh, just go to sleep."

She tilted her head and kissed his chin. "Thanks."

"I'll always be here for you. No matter how many years have passed."

Notes: Laetitia, this is probably not what you had in mind when you asked for the trope, but it's all I could think of.

If anyone would like to see me write anything, feel free to prompt me. I usually only write in this collection if I have prompts I need to write, so no prompts, then no LoVe Drabbles. The prompts can be anything: a scenario, a word, a setting, an emotion, anything at all. If you want to see it, tell me.
