Light and Shadows
I left you there, on that dark road. All alone.
I know you fear the dark. It seems right
That you should end your life in a blanket of your fear.
Sweet dreams, sweet prince, good night,
Wrapped in your nightmare, sleep well.
I wish you peace and a place to rest.
Sweet dreams, indeed, you'll never wake;
The sleep won't cease. Even when your blanket
Lifts and the light will come with bright daybreak,
That light you begged for in the dark;
When that flows around you and the sun
Tries in vain to wake you with its warm rays,
Even then, it's too late; I've left my mark,
Too strong for you to wake.
Your light has faded, young star.
You shone too bright, you outshone us all
You hurt my eyes, you never truly knew the dark.
I had to take you there.
Your brightness was your mistake;
I trapped you to show you I could.
Now darkness has caught you, you will not escape.
I took your light, I watched it bleed away
And drain from your eyes. Foolish liar,
You believed you'd shine forever.
You flew so high. I flew higher.
And like an eagle crashing down
I bore you harshly to the ground.
I ended the light that hurt my eyes
And revealed in the shadows all my lies.
