I pull on my dress and pull my hair back. It's grown a lot longer since that year. That year when everything changed. The year I met Park. I put vanilla behind my ears. Park had liked the smell of it. I had hated it. It reminded me whose fault it was I had to put it on.
It's been five years since I last saw her. Eleanor. I wish I could see her again. But she's gone. Gone away. She's safe. But I can't ever see her again. It's all his fault. It's all his damn fault. Damn him.
I get into the car and drive. I know where I'm going. I've been here before.
I get out the one postcard she sent me.
I hadn't heard from her since, but I knew she still had those feelings.
Yet I had to move on.
Damn it.
I walk up to the door of the house I know so well.
I hear a knock at the door and go investigate.
He opens the door. I see his eyes widen. He's gotten taller.
She's here, averting her eyes, looking down. She's beautiful. Just like she was that year on the bus.
"Hi," I whisper.
I say her name. "Eleanor."
I step forward.
I wrap my arms around her.
She still smells like vanilla.
I swear I'll never let go again.
When can I see you again?
