This is an alternate ending to New Moon, by Stephenie Meyer that I wrote for an assignment in English. Enjoy!

"Jake..." I took a step toward him. I wanted to wrap my arms around his waist and erase the expression of misery on his face.

Edward pulled me back again, his arms restraining instead of defending.

"It's okay," I promised him, looking up to read his face with trust in my eyes. He would understand.

His eyes were unreadable, his face expressionless. Cold. "No, It's not."

"Let her go," Jacob snarled, furious again. "She wants to!" He took two long strides forward. A glint of anticipation flashed in his eyes. His chest seemed to swell as it shuddered.

Edward pushed me behind himself, wheeling to face Jacob.

"No! Edward - !" I began, but it was too late. They had both struck at the same moment at such a great speed, that it instantaneously killed both of them.

As I stared at them – a horrified expression on my face – Charlie called for me to come inside. I ran, falling once, falling twice, nearly falling a third time, before I reached him.

"Before you ground me for three lifetimes, can I call Mike?" I asked, my lip twitching at the shocked expression on his face. All he did to answer me was nod once.

I skipped to the phone and punched in Mike's number. Charlie was watching, probably making sure that I really was Mike I called.

"Hi, Mike!" I said happily when he picked up. "It's me Bella – hold on a sec." I turned to face Charlie. "A little privacy, please," I asked a he nodded and left the room to watch TV.

I turned back to the phone. "So, Mike, want to go out sometime?"

"Just a sec," he replied after a short silence. I heard him put the phone down and shout "I GOT A DATE WITH BELLA! I GOT A DATE WITH BELLA! I GOT A DATE WITH BELLA! I GOT A DA-" I heard the ruffling of the phone being picked up. "What time should I pick you up?" he asked casually. I got to admit, I was pretty impressed with the way he held himself together... when he was talking into the phone, anyway...

"How about we discuss that tomorrow at lunch?"

"Uh... sure!" he replied cheerily. "Talk to you tomorrow!"

I hung up the phone and walked out to where I thought y dad was. He ambushed me from behind, spinning me around and giving me a huge hug.

"You finally found someone decent!" he whispered, his tone dripping with thankfulness. I laughed.

I couldn't help but feel a teensy bit sad for Edward and Jake. Oh, well! Nothing I can do, now!

Tada! Yes, I know it wouldn't kill Jake and Eddie, but oh well. It's not like my teacher reads the twilight saga anyway.... review!
