This was written for Alice's birthday. Happy Birthday Alice (ladidadidadisituation). I hope you'll enjoy it!
Thank you MinionsOfTheNachoArmyUnite for beta-reading it.
It was late in the night when Sirius Black spotted Lily Evans on the common room couch. He was just coming back from a lonely trip to the kitchen. The sixth year girl was the only person in the room; he needed to talk with her.
"What are you doing? Wandering in the corridors past curfew?" Lily asked.
"Shouldn't you be asleep at three in the morning, you know, to be ready for tomorrow's classes?"
"Tomorrow is Sunday, idiot." she smiled at him.
"Just wanted to be sure you were following. So, why are you here?"
"I'm waiting for Jake," she replied to her friend.
Jake. He was Lily's boyfriend. Jake and Lily had been dating for a year now, and it was rather serious. James had even stopped asking her out, he had almost lost hope, that was what he had told him.
In fact, he had a plan; a plan which was 'worthy of a Slytherin'.
"I'll stop asking her out and become friendly to her and Jake so Lily can see that I'm not a jerk, thus falling in love with me and ditching him."
Remus, Peter and Sirius rolled their eyes when they had heard the plan, but it had functioned in a way: Lily was friends with them now.
And it was for that reason that Sirius felt the need to talk with Lily about her relationship with Jake.
"So, it's pretty serious between you and Jake." he said as he sat beside her.
"Yes, it is." she answered with caution. Sirius and her were friends, but not the confident kind of friends. It was obvious Sirius wanted to say something, but just didn't know how to say it.
"Listen, I'm going to be straightforward: I just saw Jake snogging a blonde girl. I'm sorry Lily." he said to her.
Lily watched him carefully; he had no reason to lie, and she knew it. Even though he could do that so James would have a free path to her, Lily knew Jake was unfaithful. She had hoped her intuitions were wrong, but, apparently, they were not.
"I guess, I..." Lily didn't really know what to say or do. And it was that moment Jake chose to enter the room.
"Lily! You were waiting for me? That's so sweet!" Jake exclaimed with his honey voice.
"She wasn't 'waiting for you.' In fact, MacLaggen, Lily and I were having a snogging session just like you and Mary in the corridor." Sirius said.
Jake was shocked first but then laughed, "Funny Black, I almost believed you."
To prove his words, Sirius leaned into Lily and kissed her. Lily was shocked but recovered fast and added, "Go back to Mary, MacLaggen. Sirius and I are busy."
With a face of utter shock, Jake raced toward the seventh year dormitory.
"Not a word about that to James, understood Evans?"
"Understood Black."
Sirius stood up and made his way toward his dormitory.
"Thanks, by the way." Lily added.
"Oh, you're welcome. You were the only girl in sixth year I hadn't kissed, because of James. But now, my list is complete."
