It had been months since the recent invasion of the Netherrealm had been thwarted. Kai and Li Mei stood before Raiden, the thunder god protector of Earthrealm and fellow shaolin, Kung Jin, to tell them something important.
"I already know." Raiden smiled, "You two have done well to maintain the peace among the Shaolin and the Outworld refugees. This union is well deserved and very welcoming to my heart."
"You two are getting hitched? That's wonderful." the archer hugged them both.
"We have something else to be asked of you two." Kai added.
"What is on your minds?"
Li Mei answered, "Our firstborn. We want to consecrate the child to you, Lord Raiden."
"Why do such a thing?" the thunder god was expressionless.
Kai frowned, "We are the protectors of the Shaolin and refugees. Li Mei and I have realized our child would be left without true guidance or any real proper training. We want them to be strong enough to protect their loved ones just like Cassandra Cage or Kung Jin whom have assisted in you saving Earthrealm."
Jin interjected, "I'm a tough guy but I got my training from the Shaolin."
"You are a natural Kung Jin. My lover and I already know that we can't compare to the likes of the beings you have all faced and we do not know when another invasion or war could happen. But if you train a child with whom inherits our abilities and potential, then they can truly survive in this harsh world and protect everyone in it." Li Mei added.
The thunder god forced a smile, "Leave the child to the Shaolin and I will train them whenever I can and prepare them as protectors of Earthrealm. I will give you until their fifth birthday to reconsider."
Kai and Li Mei bowed, "Thank you, Raiden."
The couple left holding each others hands.
"I can't believe they'd give up their kid." the shaolin archer muttered.
"Don't think less of them. It's what Kenshi did for your teammate Takeda, to prepare him for the Red Dragon Clan and protect him from any other enemies. This is the same as that."
"Neither of them have any enemies though."
"Kai is part of the White Lotus and Wu Shi Academy. Its members have been attacked during invasions from Outworld. Li Mei has trained to protect her fellow refugees and would be the first to die if her group was attacked. This is not pleasant but it is the best for not only the child, but Earthrealm as well. I wouldn't put it past Takeda or Jacqui if they ever got serious. Cassie was lucky her father was an actor whom had free time with his amassed fortune."
"True. I guess i'm the black sheep outside of them and Cass." Jin looked down.
The thunder god placed his hand on the archer's shoulder, "No. You are a protector of Earthrealm. Whether or not you produce progeny does not lessen that at all. You are more than a bloodline to me. I could have fathered demigods that could protect Earthrealm. My old friend Argus of Edenia did well for a while but his realm fell when he left it's fate solely to his demigod sons that have disappeared. I may consider Earthrealmers my children, but I still must let them govern themselves and stand up on their own. You can do the same by training the next generation and enjoying the life you have Kung Jin. "
"Thanks, Raiden. Wanna spar?"
"Gladly."
Author's Note: I came up with this after thinking about another timeskip or what could've been a great idea for a legacy character in MKX. I hope you enjoyed this and review it.
I'd also like to add that Taven is my favorite character next to Johnny Cage but what Raiden says really rings true and separates Edenia from Earthrealm.
