Title: Say your Goodbyes

Summary: It takes Gwen almost dying to realise she has to preserve what normal life she has...and it doesn't include Owen.

Rating: PG.

A/N: An explanation as to what happened to Gwen and Owen after 'They Keep Killing Suzie' and why he suddenly falls in 'love' with Diane.

"How you feeling?" Gwen Cooper was the only occupant of the three bed hospital wing located within the bowels of Torchwood. Owen sat by her bed. He'd been there before she'd fallen asleep. Had he stayed while she slept? Kept some sort of bedside vigil? It seemed to 'soppy' and 'comfy' for him.

"Like I was shot in the the head." She grumbles, turning slightly to face him, her hair a tangled mess, matted with dry blood. Her eyes were still red and swollen from crying her eyes out as she sat on the dock, clinging to Owen for dear life.

"Funnily enough..." His smile fades as he watches her wince in pain. "You're on as much morphine as you can have luv." In the dimly lit room the shadows on his face make him look tired and vulnerable. A scared little boy.

"I thought I'd lost you." He finally admits. "Seeing you lying there...lifeless. I forgot about Suzie and alien technology, this place. All I could think about was getting to you-"

"It's over." She interrupts. "Whatever we had. It's over."

"Gwen"

"I'm tired Owen." The double meaning isn't lost on him. "Please. Just leave."
