Ok…so now it's Oogushi-kun's turn! LOL. Isn't that what Gintoki calls Hijikata? Anyway, the plot continues to thicken! Thanks to my dedicated readers! I love you guys! By the way, as this series continues, please review and let me know how I'm doing ok? I've never written drabbles before but they are fun and much quicker to write! Hmm…I wonder who Yamazaki will end up with?

Drabble #5- Love Can Be Sneaky

Hijikata's POV

The Shinsengumi is my life. Sad, but true. Most people would call me pathetic for having nothing and no one precious to me. But I say Love is overrated. I've lost count of how many strong people have been brought down because of Love. A year ago, I would have said that I would never become one of them…those fools who fall in love. But things change…I changed. That annoying devil caught me off guard. The scheming temptress swept the rug our from under me. The beast called Love came into my life…in the form of the bumbling idiot ninja Yamazaki.

I was determined to keep my feelings for him a secret forever, but Fate decided to be an ass and forced my hand. The Shinsengumi was on duty during one of Otsuu's concerts. The baka Yorozuya was there too and Sougo kept me on my toes with his barrage of murder attempts. But the world around me faded away as Otsuu began to sing. To anyone who might have glanced over at me, I would have appeared as if I was staring up at the stage drooling mindlessly because I was entranced by Otsuu's beauty and talented singing. The girl was cute and had a good voice…but my eyes were glued on someone in the background.

Yamazaki had been assigned as one of her body guards and so he was undercover as one of her back-up dancers. He was the ideal candidate because of his ability to blend in and because he could be forgettable. But to me…the spy always stood out of the crowd. I don't know when it started but he had somehow become a constant blip on my radar. He was moving in sync with the real dancers and I was stunned by how graceful he was. I felt my pants tighten and my lungs constrict as he danced in that sinfully snug outfit. Naughty thoughts paraded through my mind and I felt my face burn. He was so sexy in pink and with those suggestive movements…I had try to appear casual as I wiped my nose to catch the trickle of blood.

Suddenly, Yamazaki seemed to stiffen and his eyes went wide. Immediately on guard, I turned to follow his gaze to a spot behind me, my hand on my sword, when my eyes widened and my blood ran cold. The person he was staring at was none other than Kawakami Bansai…a member of the Kiheitai. Neither of them noticed I had seen this exchange because they seemed to have forgotten anyone else existed. I felt a stab of jealousy along with worry. Wasn't this the same man who had almost killed Yamazaki…but had suddenly changed his mind?

Yes, Love can be sneaky. It can be beautiful and pure or dark and twisted. It can come in all shapes and sizes. Love can make the pain go away…but it can also cause the pain to return…only twice as strong. Only fools fall in love…and now I've become one of them. And to make things worse, as Bansai took off his ever-present glasses…I knew that Love had snuck up on him too. Now I had a rival…but I am Hijikata Toshirou…Vice Commander of the Shinsengumi…and I refuse to lose.
