Author's Note: Hey guys! I don't know if you all remember me, but I wrote Be Safe in 2007. Haha, long time ago. I am starting a new story now. I'm warning everyone ahead of time that Bella may seem a little out of character. But who doesn't have another side to them? I'll be exploring Bella's more devious and rebellious side in this story. I apologize if this offends any die-hard Twilight fans (I have definitely been there). I will try my best!

Oh also, I was looking back at my other story and it seems that I used to be a bit of a review whore. I promise it won't be like that this time, however everyone does enjoy a review once in a while!

One more thing. This preface does not take place at the beginning of a story. It's kind of a teaser. I just wanted to get this out there so that it gives me motivation to continue. Thanks for reading guys! Enjoy.

Disclaimer:

Twilight and all its wonderful characters belong to Stephanie Meyer, not myself. *Sigh*

Preface: Desire

The scent urged me forward. My eyes were fierce with desire and intensity. Urgently, I ran, ducking under branches and lunging over bushes. I needed this. My head was cloudy and my everyday thoughts were silence by my hunger. One thought pervaded through the murk of my mind. To get what I was after. Nothing else mattered.

My breath was ragged. Not because I was running. No, a vampire's breathing is irrelevant to running. Impatience caused my breathing to become irregular. I needed what was coming. My body and mind craved it.

The world around me was a blur. I knew nothing but my goal and I knew I would do anything to get it. Just thinking about it made my feet move faster. A tree brushed the side of my face. I was getting careless.

"Focus," my mind whispered to me. I didn't want the creature to get away. Running into a tree would definitely give me away. My running was otherwise quiet.

I was getting closer; the scent was getting stronger. Then suddenly, it was gone. Abruptly, I stopped. I opened my senses to the forest around me. Silence. Closing my eyes, I inhaled deeply. It was hiding. Silly creature, nothing can compare to the senses of a vampire.

Stalking forward, I readied myself for what was about to come. I savored these moments. The hunt could be fun, if I allowed it to be. As a crept around a tree, a clearing appeared before my eyes. A beautiful cave stood at the end of the clearing. I knew that was where the creature was hiding. I licked my lips hungrily. Silently, I moved forward, preparing myself.

"Not too fast… savor it," my mind told me. She must have believed herself safe, for she was kneeling at the edge of a pool of fresh water. I watched the creature move with intense longing. A slight breeze blew through her long, blond hair. Her scent was whispering to me, pulling me forward. Swiftly, she hurled her body around, facing me. To late. I bared my teeth at her in a vicious smile. And then I lunged.
