a/n: I know it's short but I did it quick before work ^^ I love unohana x hitsugaya as mother and son :)

It was a rather sunny day when Unohana walked through the streets of Rukongai and stopped at a store where she saw a small white haired boy buying some jelly beans and she also saw how horrible he was treated. With her serene smile and daggers shooting eyes she commented on how rude the man was to the little boy.

The boy named Toshiro Hitsugaya fell on the ground from startle by her kindness and scary look in her eyes.

Unohana turned to the boy and knelt down by him. "Are you hurt?"

"No, I'm fine" the boy scowled and got up.

Unohana smiled motherly at him helping him pick up the fallen jelly beans.

"These are not good anymore you can throw them away."

"They are from my grandma" the boy mumbled. "I saved up to buy a bag of the jelly beans." His eyes got teary but he fought against the tears.

Retsu helped him up and guided him to a secluded place where she wrapped her arms around him and stroked his hair soothing. "It's okay, I have here two bags of them. You can take one. My husband has enough candies at home, one bag less will do him good."

They boy felt oddly comforted by the warm embrace and sobbed uncontrollable

Retsu went to sit on a bench and pulled him on her lap. "It's all okay little one. What is your name?"

"Hitsugaya Toshiro," the boy answered calmer now and leaned against Retsu's chest.

"Where are your parents or guardians?" Retsu asked softly stroking his unruly hair.

"I...I only live with my grandma and foster sister Momo…"

Retsu hugged him tighter in an impulse and kissed his tearstained cheek.

The boy got red of embarrassment but kept quiet.

"Shiro-chan, how would you like it if we adopted you?"

"A..?" The boy stuttered shocked. "You don't even know me or where I am from!"

Retsu smiled tenderly at the boy and cradled him in her arms while humming a lullaby.

"I still want to adopt u."

The boy stared a while wordless at her and then nodded slowly leaning against her.

"I trust you," he yawned and drifted off to sleep.
