What I Like About You?

'Why do you hate me?' He always had those questions- tricky, hard to answer ones.

'There are a few things I hate about you.' She was beating about the bush, she knew it and so did he.

'Well?' James pushed quirking a dark eyebrow.

'What, would you like me to write a list? I will if you want.' Lily had replied.

So there was Lily the next day- storming up to James as he sat in the library doing his work.

Lily cleared her throat causing James to start and stare at her.

She held up the parchment and began to read,

'What I hate about you, by Lily Evans.' James sighed and put down his quill.

'I hate that you prank people because you think it is fun.

'I hate that you think all the teachers love you so that you think you don't need to listen in class or do your homework.

'I hate when you ruffle your hair,' James' hand paused halfway up to his head. 'And I hate that all the girls seem to find that attractive. I hate that girls seem to find everything you do attractive. I hate that you know it, and you flaunt it.' James couldn't help but smirk.

'I hate your smirk and you smirk a lot.' His grin disappeared.' I hate that all you do is smirk and I barely see you smile. When you do smile it is when you are with your friends, or when you've had a good Quidditch practise. I hate that you always seem like a different person when you are in front of a crowd.'

'I hate that you always try to show off when you get a good mark on a test or score a goal in Quidditch. I hate that you can't be humble and just let me be happy for you.'

'Most of all, I hate that you make me hate you.'

Lily looked up and stared at James- testing his reaction. James looked away and cleared his throat.

'Well... Thanks for that.' James got up and began to walk away when Lily stopped him.

'You didn't let me finish.' Lily said quietly and she lifted the parchment to read out the second list there.

'What I like about you.' She began.

'I like that you stopped pranking people when you feel like it. I like that you help people instead.'

'I like that you try hard in your lessons and do your homework.' She pointed at his work spread out over the table. He smiled.

'I like that you smile now and not smirk. I like that you don't ruffle your hair to look good but out off habit. I like that you care about Quidditch and you play because you care about it and not to show off. I like that you are kind and mature and have grown up into a man, from that immature and egoistical boy.

'Most of all, I like that I can like you. I do like you.' Lily finished and put down the parchment. Nervously, she looked up James to see his reaction. His face was blank.

'Erm...James?' Lily said.

Ever so slowly, James' face broke into a face splitting grin..

'Really?' He whispered.

'Well, it seems so.' Said Lily checking her list again.

Suddenly, James jumped up and pulled Lily Evans into a huge hug.

'Go out with me?' He whispered in to her hair.

'Hey,' she said pulling back. 'Don't push it!'

He was fine with that. For now.
