A/N: I just love the bond these two have, how Soren's willing to do anything for Ike. It's just adorable, really :D This fic can be interpreted as romance or just plain friendship, it's up to you :3
Eternal Bond
To be honest, Soren didn't really believe in the concept of infinity. All things had to come to an end sometime, he reasoned. It was just the way things were, and he couldn't change them no matter how much he wanted to. Soren didn't like to think about forever because one day the war would be over and all the Greil Mercenaries would split up, and they'd never see each other ever again. He was willing to stay with Ike until the end of his life, but even then, one day Ike would die and so would he and there would be nothing left of them.
But it was Ike who taught him that they could create their own eternity together. Soren first came to that realization one night when he was working late in his room and Ike came in to tell him to take a break, like he always did. It was the fourth time that week, and although he found Ike's nagging bothersome, he couldn't bring himself to defy the other.
"Soren, you can't kill yourself," Ike insisted. "I need you. What would we do without our strategist?"
"That's what I'm doing," Soren said. "I'm being a strategist. Listen, Ike—"
But before he could continue, he felt Ike's hand rest on his shoulder and pull him up out of his chair. "Come on," he said with a smile. "Take a break, for once."
Soren considered relenting. He knew Ike wouldn't give up, and if it came to it, would practically drag him from his maps and papers. Ike had an iron grip that he couldn't escape, no matter how much he struggled or cursed at him. And that would be humiliating, in the least. Finally he replied, "Fine. Five minutes."
"C'mon, ten." He sounded amused. "Aw, Soren, what would I do without you?" Suddenly, Soren felt Ike's strong arms around him, holding him tight, never letting him go. He thought he could stay in this embrace forever.
And right then, Soren knew that he and Ike were infinite. They could fight the war for as long as they lived, go visit distant and faraway lands, and time would never pass as long as they were together. And after they had long died and their footsteps had disappeared off the earth, they would leave behind a legacy that would never end.
