My first 'Quack Pack' fic... I've been a little melancholic lately^^
I just love Huey's, Dewey's and Louie's relationship in 'Quack Pack'; they seem to be so close!
Try to enjoy it, my dear readers!
Depending
A soft sob escaped his throat. His body was shaking.
He opened his eyes and stared at the river.
It had an intense tempo. One wrong step and he would be gone.
Dewey moved a little closer to the edge, tears uncontrollably running down his cheeks.
This would solve all his problems. Make all the pain go away.
Make his brothers happy.
Another sob was heard.
Dewey had always known that he didn't fit into his family. But Huey and Louie had never seemed to bother.
But lately…
Their eyes had avoided him whenever it was possible. No matter what Dewey said or did, he wouldn't get their attention.
But when they did look at him…their eyes would be filled with indifference.
Nothing more than indifference.
Dewey balled his hands to fists.
He would do it.
He would do what they had promised each other silently, so many years ago.
He would die for his brothers.
Dewey took the final step.
His skin felt like it was pieced by a million needles.
The cold paralyzed his body, creeping inside him, making him numb from within.
His tears mixed with the freezing cold water.
He could feel his back scratching against the sharp rocks, crashing against the hard, stoned wall of the river.
Dewey didn't care about the pain anymore.
Suddenly he felt a strong grip on his arm. Two pairs of hands pulled him up.
He could feel his body leave the water, the soft grass under him.
Two sets of arms wrapped around him.
"We're so sorry, Dew - Man."
Huey's voice was like life saving medicine for a fatally ill child. Louie's head resting on his shoulder was like a warm blanket in a freezing cold night.
"Don't you dare to ever think about that again."
Dewey was pulled against his red wearing brother's chest.
"What would we do without you?"
Another pair of arms wrapped around him, having the three teenage ducks in a group hug.
Something they hadn't done in months.
Finally, Dewey let go of all the emotions he had kept inside for so long. His loud sobs and violent shaking was tearing at his soul. Two hands came up to softly wipe the tears away.
"We're brothers. Triplets. Without you…we'd be nothing."
The hug was tightened.
"We love you so much, Dewey. So very much."
And Dewey cuddled closer, his body still shaking with sobs, but sobs of relieve.
He had his brothers back. They were a team again.
He grabbed a hand of each of his brothers, whispering, his voice raw: "I love you guys, too."
And they just sat there, cuddling with each other like they used to when they were kids and one of them cried, whispering comforting and needed words into each other's ears.
They would never let one of them down again.
They were a team. They were a unit.
They were one.
The End
