A/N: Based on a true story! Except for the detention part…
I hate lines… Ron thought. I hate writing… I will not curse Malfoy in the halls…I will not curse Malfoy in the halls…
" I-w-i-l-l-n-o-t-c-u-r-s-e-M-a-l-f-o--"
"Ron, you're doing it again."
"Oh, sorry, Hermione, I usually write and say the letters out loud."
"It's okay."
Malfoy, Ron, and Hermione were in detention. Harry was supposed to be there, but he was in the hospital wing after the four of them had gotten into a fight, unable to move his arms or speak. Luckily, it had been Dumbledore who had found them, and, being a kind headmaster, only made them write lines because he understood the object of their fight. Hermione had finished her lines, but she was obliged to wait until the other two were done with theirs. Ron and Malfoy were not used to writing, however, and still had about 30 lines left each.
Ron, can I ask you something? Hermione wrote on a slip of paper that she passed to Ron.
Yes. He wrote back.
Do you like anyone?
Yes.
Who?
Lynn.
Who's Lynn?
A girl from my witch and wizard summer camp.
Oh. Well, you know I like you right?
Yes, and I kind of like you too. Don't tell anyone.
Okay.
So do you have anything to say?
Well, no, was I supposed to?
I guess not.
Sorry for interrupting your lines, Ron.
THE NEXT DAY…
"Ron?"
"Yes, Hermione?"
"Did you mean that yesterday?"
"Yesterday…yesterday…"
"During detention?"
"Oh! Yes, I meant that."
"Really?"
"Yes, I did. I'm not kidding."
"Okay… thanks."
"Did you know Harry's better… well, he can talk at least."
"Really? You didn't tell him did you?"
"No, and you haven't told Ginny or anyone, right?"
"No, not a soul."
"Good, let's keep it that way."
"Okay…… I promise."
