AN: Prompt 91 - "Drowning". As ever, not my characters. Do I really need to keep saying that?

A battle was raging in the underground tunnels below Twilight Town. Fire and water clashed, sending clouds of steam into the air. Where the tunnels emerged into the city, the steam escaped, warning any inhabitants to keep clear. It wasn't just a fight, it was something far more than that; It was a battle of wills, between two people who would never surrender. Axel and Tifa, fire and water, fighting for opposite sides but consorting with the enemy. Aerith knew, but was yet to express an opinion. She'd simply stated that they fought as a kind of foreplay, which wasn't far from the truth. The fights were an excuse to see each other, and also a demonstration of the rivalry between them.

Tifa jumped as the fierce flames swept across the floor, shooting water at her opponent. They were evenly matched, as always, though it seemed that they had both improved. They were beginning to tire now, so they'd soon call it a draw, again.

One final attack from each of them, before Axel allowed Tifa to douse the flames one last time. No sooner had she done so than they were in each other's arms, chakrams abandoned on the floor, all thoughts of fighting completely forgotten.

Axel's hood was pushed back, revealing the blood red hair, green eyes and the intriguing tattoos on his face. Tifa had never asked about them, despite her curiosity. If Axel wanted to tell her, he would. He released her hair from the messy ponytail holding it back, and it fell, loose, around her shoulders. They kissed, giving way to the torrent of emotions and passion raging through them. These meetings didn't happen nearly often enough for their liking, but there wasn't much they could do about that. Instead, they took full advantage of the time they could spend together.

Tifa found herself pressed against the wall, one of Axel's hands underneath her skirt. She'd deliberately chosen the miniskirt for this very reason. Her own hands were tugging at the zip on his coat impatiently. It had been entirely too long since they'd done this.

One day, perhaps, they would be together openly, instead of needing to keep everything secret. Maybe then, they could have more than snatched moments, and hurried, desperate sex in hidden corners of the town. Axel rained kisses down on her flushed, burning hot skin, and Tifa stopped thinking about everything. Instead, she just allowed herself to feel, allowed herself to drown in the emotions that flowed through them like a burning river. Fire and water, polar opposites. They should have clashed, extinguishing each other, but that wasn't the case. They couldn't exist without the other, both Axel and Tifa knew that.
