You trekked slowly through the muddy grounds of the circus's camp, the rainfall but a sprinkle. The softness of the mud squished under her feet. Storms had never been a comforting familiarity of yours, especially when camp took shelter in the middle of nowhere. You were headed for a less lonelier place, one being that of your ringleader's, where you would be welcomed and safely sheltered. A light glowed softly from inside of the tent, a soft silhouette of a man moving about. He was still awake. Your eyes lit up as you approached the opening of his tent, slowly parting the doorway.
"Joker?" You called tentatively, unsure to enter.
He looked in your direction, smiling that charming smile. The rain felt a little warmer when you saw that familiar smile.
"Aye, if it isn't our lovely acrobat (your name). What brings ye 'ere to me tent so late at night? There's a storm a'brewin out there, ya know."
You blushed and smiled gently.
"I-I know it's late and I didn't want to disturb you..but I couldn't sleep...t-the thunder was making me uneasy-."
Joker held up his hand, still smiling that sweet smile.
"Say no more, you can stay with me till the storm passes, okay (your name)?"
You gave a nod and entered further into the tent, the warmth from the heater wrapping around you. Joker smiled and turned to the mirror that stood before him, continuing to remove the pins from his hair. You watched him briefly before you walked over to the bed that was placed in the far corner of the tent. The bedding was made of wool, and the warmest of fleece. to yourself and sat down on the bed,
"You're shiverin', luv. R' ye cold?"
You looked up, Joker's face very close to yours. You felt a blush rise along your face and flush along your ears. He smelled of spearmint with a hint of Cocoa, a scent you've known for a long time now, a comforting smell.
"S-sorta..it's a little chill from the rain.."
He then smiled widely at you, taking a seat beside you.
"Then if you don't mind me bein' presumptuous why don't we get in me bed and warm up?"
You were taken aback by the question for moment then realised that that was the reason you came to his tent in the first place. You nodded and slowly crawled into the bed, your back facing the wall of the tent and Joker slipping in next to you.
Your heart skipped a beat for a moment as you felt his arm shift under your waist and wrapping around you. His natural warmth enveloped you your body slowly subsiding from the chill on your skin. Joker draped the wool blanket around you both, his orange hair resting on the pillow you shared.
"Are ye better now?"
You looked into his pale lavender eyes and smiled.
"Y-yeah..thank you, Joker.."
He smiled back and stroked your hair gently
"I'm glad. I can sing ye a song to sleep by, aye?"
"E-eh? What? You don't have to do that.."
Joker ignored your objection and began to softly sing, his voice carrying away with the rainfall outside, your eyes slowly shutting, sleep consuming you in a matter of moments. From then on, the nights that it rained brought back his lovely voice, lulling you into a deep and enchanting sleep.
