Chapter 1: A Straw Hat
I had been tied to the post in the Crucifixion yard for 20 days when I saw a straw hat sticking up just above the top of the wall. At first, I thought I was hallucinating since I hadn't had a proper meal in weeks, but then the head that that hat rested upon came into view. The kid that was looking over the wall at me had jet black hair, a scar under his left eye, and a ridiculously optimistic grin on his face. He was... cute... I shook my head to dislodge that train of thought. I had more important things to worry about.
