"For the last time James, we are not naming this child after you," Lily repeated for what had to be at least the seventh time that day. James had just woken up and yet all he could talk about was having a baby James.
"Aw, c'mon Lils, why can't we just name them after the best person I know?" Lily let out a frustrated groan. She was well aware James was only nagging at her to get his mind off all the complications in The Order, but now it was just getting out of hand.
"You know perfectly well why. And besides, what if it's a girl?" James momentarily paused as if he were thinking about it.
"Jamie," he said with a quick nod of his head for emphasis. Lily sighed and buried her face in her hands. She slightly shook her head as James leaned across the counter top to try to remove her hands.
"No. I will not let you name this baby anything remotely close to James. And don't bother asking why because you know bloody well why." Lily's words were slightly muffled from her hands holding her face up but the point got across.
James stood and waltzed across their red kitchen to the freezer. He sighed and grabbed their last tub of chocolate ice cream.
"Are you seriously going to eat that? Are you aware we bought it for the pregnant one here?" Lily said looking up to see James rummaging through the silverware drawer.
"Oh come on. First I can't name our first born child after myself and now I can't even eat this deliciousness that has been tempting me all day? My god, what can I do then?" James said mostly to himself while he leaned against the sink and jammed his spoon in.
"You've only been awake for twenty minutes," Lily pointed out. James muttered something his wife couldn't hear and continued aggressively eating.
Lily got up from her stool and waddled over to James. "Why are you so set on this? Why can't you just help me pick out a few other names like any other future father would? Arguing with me doesn't help," she grumbled, taking the ice cream and spoon from him and replacing them in the freezer.
"I am helping. I'm helping you realize I am right and we should name our kid James or Jamie," James said defensively.
"We are not naming them James or Jamie now why don't you be helpful and think of other names please," Lily said with exhaustion. James threw his head back in defeat. "Fine," he sighed, throwing his hands up, "we can give them a meaningless name that they'll undoubtedly hate."
"Thank you," she replied with a hint of annoyance. "I'm thinking for a girl I want something unique, like something little to no one else at Hogwarts will have. Any ideas?"
"Yes." James said with a slight smirk tugging on the corner of his mouth.
"Care to share?" Lily asked after a full thirty seconds of silence.
James face had fully developed into a grin. "Jamie," he said, stifling a laugh. Lily had to slow her breathing to keep herself from screaming at him. She glared at him while he seemed to literally be holding his laughter in.
"James Potter. We. Are not. Naming. This child. After. You." Lily paused between each word trying to calm herself.
"Okay, fine. You've made your point." James said in a defeated tone.
"Good," Lily said reaching for a baby name book. She sat on the floor at James' feet and began flipping it open to random pages. "Hmm… For a girl, what do you think about Scarlett?"
"I think it sounds nothing like Jamie," James said while crouching down next to her.
"Exactly," Lily said excitedly. She flipped through the pages again.
"Wait wait, stop here," James said putting his hand in the book. Lily stopped and peered down.
"Look at that. James. Obviously it's a sign from the universe," James said pointing his finger down at the name.
"Harry James." Lily said. She looked beside her at her husband. His face was beginning to glow with pride.
Lily put her hand on her baby bump. "Harry James," she repeated as a smile crept across her face.
"Perfect," James whispered.
It really was.
