Someday Is Now
By: Perfect Stranger
Music is flowing out of the gymnasium where hundreds of kids gathered for what a banner framing the doorway called, "A Starlit Homecoming." Laughter and happiness heavily surround the room, but one pair of students only looked on in envy.
"Wanna dance?"
"You know I can't dance, Larry." Riley stated, rolling her eyes at her best friend, admirer, and homecoming date.
"Neither can I." Larry countered.
"So, then why did you ask?"
"Cool the whole princess act, and gimme your hand, Riley."
"Cool the whole Mr. 'I know everything' act and I just might consider it, jerk."
"Look, I'm sorry, ok? Now, dance with me?"
"Alright, lets get this over with."
The song changes to a slow ballad, as the previously feuding pair relax into each other's arms.
Its undeniable
that we should be together
Its unbelievable
how I used to say that I'd fall never
The basis you need to know
if you don't know just how I feel
Then let me show you now that I'm for real
If all things in time
time will reveal
"They play this song far too much."
"Can it, Larry, I like it." Riley whispered, hitting Larry lightly.
"So do I, I'm just saying…"
"Then stop saying!"
"Fine."
Riley shoots icy glares at her dance companion until suddenly, her eyes soften.
"Are… are your eyes… green."
"I dunno, I never really checked. Are they?"
"I love your eyes. My mom always said something about what you could see through a person's eyes."
"Um… huh?"
~~~~~ *Riley's Flashback* ~~~~~
Riley and her mother are sitting on the beach watching Chloe, Riley's twin, and their father surf in front of a setting sun. Her mother suddenly spoke in a dreamy voice.
"The first time I really noticed your father's appearance, it was his eyes that drew me to him. I swear, I could see into his heart, and see the passion and fire behind the façade of nerdiness he always hid behind."
"And the suddenly you were totally like, 'I think I'm in love!' right?"
"No! of course not! I hated him, he stalked me and would not leave me alone. But I knew, someday, I would love him."
~~~~~ *End of Flashback* ~~~~~
One - you're like a dream come true
Two - just wanna be with you
Three - Girl its plain to see
that you're the only one for me, and
Four - repeat steps one to three
Five - make you fall in love with me
If ever I believe my work is done
then I start back at one...
"Riley? The song… it's over now." Larry said, breaking Riley from her thoughts.
"Huh? Oh… right."
"So um, we can kinda move now…"
Riley made no motion to move. She stared into his eyes, and swore to herself that she could see the passion and fire. She knew. That someday, it had to be now.
"Larry?" She said, interrupting his nervous babbling."
"Ya?"
"Kiss me?"
"WHAT?!?! Here, now, why? People are already kinda staring at us."
"So? Oh just shut up. Forget I said anything."
She started to walk away, but is held back and suddenly pulled into a sweet, spellbinding, kiss.
"Like that?" Larry said, suddenly pulling back and shaking slightly.
"Ya," She said resting her head on his shoulder with a sigh, "Like that."
