Based on Season 3, Episode 4 "Sin City"
Prompt: "Do you think there's something wrong with my brother?" – Dean to Bobby
"Do you think there's something wrong with Sam?" John asked Bobby as they stood out on Bobby's front porch, watching as the boys played among the cars. Bobby took a swig of his beer.
"He's just found out that monsters exist – thanks to his idjit big brother. Give him some time."
"That's not what I meant, Bobby"
"I know," Bobby finished off yet another bottle as John's first remained untouched.
They looked on as, in the yard, Sam fell over and banged his head against one of the cars. John didn't even bother to move and, sure enough, Dean was there in seconds, pulling Sam up and checking him over before cradling the boy in his arms.
John gripped tight on the beer bottle, knuckles white, as Sam clung to Dean; burying his head in his big brother's shoulder.
"You're not exactly around John – of course he's dependent on Dean. There's nothing unnatural about that"
John silently cursed Bobby for knowing his thoughts so well then, as Dean kissed the spot on Sam's head that had collided with the car, downed his beer in one.
"They just seem...close," John said, rolling the empty bottle in his hands.
"They are learning to keep each other alive John," Bobby commented, as diplomatically as he could. "I'll get you another," he added, indicating to the bottle before heading back into the house.
He paused in the doorway to turn and watch the boys in the yard: Dean had Sam in a bridal lift and the younger boy was nuzzling into Dean's neck as he was spun round and round, duct flying. Beside him John squeezed the bottle in his hand until it broke.
And as Bobby headed into the house for more beer (and a pair of tweezers) he was glad he had kept to himself the fact he had walked into the boys' room this morning to find Sam curled up in Dean's bed – snoring in time with each other.
Yes, there was something wrong with those boys.
