"Good Morning, Toronto. It's 7:00 a.m, & this is Mad Dog (and Billie) for KISS 92.5 FM." "Ugh, morning already?! C'mon, just 15 more minutes!" Alison Ramsey thought sleepily as she lazed out of bed. Today was her first day at Degrassi Community School. She had moved from London (Ontario). "Today, we're gonna start your day off w/ Daniel Bedingfield's new hit, "James Dean," continued Billie over the bedside radio/alarm-clock. "Are you up yet, honey?" asked her mom, Elizabeth, from downstairs. "Be right down!" After she finished breakfast & dressed (a purple baby-doll tee with a white maple leaf in the centre & a dyed pair of not-so-blue-jeans), she boarded her skate board, grabbed her backpack & CD player, & headed for De Grassi St.
When she walked up to the entrance, she was amazed at how big the school really was. She saw a girl over by the entrance, surrounded by a mob. She thought she must be popular, so she didn't want to talk to her quite yet. She chose a quiet seat over by a punkish-looking girl listening to headphones. She noiselessly set her stuff down & looked sheepishly about her new surroundings. The punk-girl removed her headphones & said, almost nicely, "Hi. I take it you're new. My name's Ellie." Alison timidly answered, "My name's Alison, & yes, I'm new here." Ellie, wanting to help out, asked, "Have you gotten your registration information, yet?" Ellie showed her the way to the main office. She got her maps, locker #, & class info, and sat on a bench just outside of the office to review it. SHe then asked Ellie, "Who's that pretty girl with the following?" Ellie didn't hesitate to reply, "Oh, that's Paige. Watch out for her."

"Class, we have a new student with us today!" Mr. Simpson cheerfully exclaimed to his homeroom class, 9F. "Her name is..." Alison took over. "Alison Ramsey." The class greeted her warmly & her new teacher showed her where she was to sit. She went to her computer to await her next class, English with a woman named Mrs. Kwan. The girl in the chair next to her started to speak, startling Alison. It was the girl that she had admired earlier, the same girl that Ellie said to stay away from. "Hi, hon! You're new. You don't know who I am. My name is Paige Michalchuk, & might I say that your shirt is trés-chic! Wanna come to my house later & tell me where you got it?" On no, Alison thought. What do I do know? She felt she had no choice but the accept the invitation. "Um, sure. Do you live far from here?" "No," shot back Paige, "just a couple of blocks." They agreed to meet after school in the commons, just by "the wall" as Paige put it. The first period bell rang, & Paige and Alison went their seperate ways. Alison could only hope that Paige wouldn't be as bad as Ellie & made her out to be.
