I guess you'd say it started in the Nibelheim basement.  Yes, that must have been

the start of all this.  Those books told the truth, the only thing in my life that hasn't lied

to me were those filthy, dust-covered pages.  What did I learn from those books you ask?

Well that, my friend, is simple; my origin.  Now what's so important about my origin

that something like THAT would happen?  Ever since I was a small boy I've never

known who my parents were, what kind of people they were or what happened to them so

as to explain why I never met them.

"An alien sample….destroyed the Cetra….Cetra are evil….must be

destroyed…all of them…..that girl…..Aeris will destroy us all…must be stopped."  These

were simple notes taken from the books of the basement.  I decided then and there what

my mission was in life;  save mankind.  Seems quite the job, no?  Perhaps it was, but

there's more to the story than just that.  That "alien sample" they speak of was

JENOVA…my mother.  The books told me that an alien named JENOVA landed long

ago when the Cetra reigned on this planet.  JENOVA, knowing of the Cetra, all but made

them extinct, save for the few that managed to escape and capture her.  Capturing her,

they froze her body. The Cetra all but disappeared after that. Humans then toke control

and the world became what it is now.

After reading nearly every book in the Nibelheim Mansion's basement I finally

emerged to the small town.  Aeris…the last remaining Cetra.  Aeris…the girl that would

destroy mankind.  Aeris…my rival.

Nearly five years have passed since that day.  My actions have led people to

believe that I am wicked.  However, that is not entirely true.  Yes, there are things I have

done that I regret, but that doesn't matter as long as that woman is stopped.  Not telling

anyone what I know to be true is the best way to go about this.  If others know what I

knew they may try to help her, Aeris.  Better to be the right hand of the devil than in its path.

Here I am.  Sitting here, watching her.  She seems so innocent kneeling there,

praying like that.  What a play she puts on and oh how the audience, her "friends", are

amused.  I can just picture her face, her large green eyes, her pretty, long brown hair

flowing over her delicate features.  Not for long.  Not anymore.

I adjust myself, careful not to make a sound.  A low growl forms in the depths of

my throat as I look down at her, her body, her back.  I glance at the long sword in my

hand and make sure one last time that I haven't lost my mind and assure myself that what

I'm doing is right.  What I'm about to do is for the good of all mankind.  Isn't it?  I shake

off my worries and set myself on my goal, my target, my Aeris.  Taking the sword in

both hands I push off from my ledge, hair flying, I leap down on the small woman. A

leap to save mankind.

My name has been spread all over the world.  The murderer.  The evil one.  The

beast.  The savior.  Sephiroth.
