A Vision of Greatness She'd always been quiet at school. Even with such a high social status. And walking with her friends through the hallways at school she'd always felt so lonely. So lonely. No one really understood her. When she thought about it, when she really really thought about, they weren't really friends, they were just people she walked around with. One might even call them followers. An arm flew up in greeting as she approched her group. "Relena's here! Hey!" She smiled warmly and waved. Her heart wasn't really in it. Neither were her thoughts. It was automatic. Sometimes she really hated these people for being so clueless. Comments and questions were thrown at her from every direction. "It's so great to have you back, Relena. We missed you a lot." -Missed having someone rich to follow around.- "It's great to be back." "How was your trip?" -It sucked but I'd rather be there than here.- "Wonderful. But I'd much rather be here." A girl with mousy brown hair jumped in front of Relena, sheilding her from the bombardment of questions. "Don't ask so many questions. She just got here." -Thank God.- "No really, it's okay. I don't mind." -Liar.- "Whatever you say, Relena." The questions rose around Relena again, trapping her in mindless chatter. -Do they ever breathe?- "Can we see your schedule, Relena?" The piece of paper with her list of classes was passed around. A nameless follower squealed. "I have fourth hour with you, Relena." -Just great.- "That's wonderful." She claimed her schedule and walked off in the direction of her first class. "Relena's so great, I want to be just like her." A girlsighed dreamily. Relena dreaded the minutes between classes. Someone was always at her elbows. Shooting mindless dribble at her. She needed space, breathing room, something. Her mind was always miles away from this godforsaken private school. With a certain someone. With a boy who tried to kill her. A boy she loved. Of course, it was more a sisterly or motherly love. He was always trying to get himself killed. He needed her. Her concern. Her love. Her death. Not only was he out to get himself killed but he was attempting to snuff her out in the process. She was a liability. A friend who couldn't take care of herself. Therefore, she was dangerous. -But he can't do it.- No. He never could really do it. After all, she was a friend. He did care about her. Without her who would worry about him? No one. At least, not the way she worried about him. He had other friends, but they all did the same thing as him. Thankfully the war had come to an end. But has his war come to end? That internal struggle that always bubbled up in his features in moments of weakness. Hell, her struggle was still ongoing. She blew a kiss to the wind and hoped it would reach him. Hoped he would know that someone was always there for him. Hoped he was okay. Hoped so many damn things that she instantly regretted even starting the subject in her head. Relena sighed and went inside. She brushed stray hair out of her eyes and flipped off the light. As always she wondered if he was going to sleep. She mentally berated him if he wasn't and tucked him in if he was. And as she drifted off to sleep she wished the others a good night. -fin- |
