Trypanophobia

Trypanophobia is an extreme fear of medical procedures involving injections or hypodermic needles.

"Quick hold him down!" Richard ordered as each team member grabbed a limb.

"Come on, Garfield, It will only take a second." Kori tried to reassure.

"Stop acting so childish." Raven told him.

"Hold still!" Victor said as he tried to get a good spot on his arm.

"No needles!" Garfield yelled as he tried to squirm away.

"Come on, Gar!" Victor said grabbing his friends arm with a death grip. "We were exposed to some very strong chemicals today, if you don't get this shot you could have some severe side effects." He said with a clenched mouth.

"No needles!" Garfield yelled again.

"We all had to do it." Richard told him. "Now as your leader I'm ordering you to hold still and get the shot!" He yelled

Garfield turned his head and as he made contact with the shiny reflective needle his eyes widened and he froze…

His arm was in pain; it started off as a stinging pain but now started to burn. His vision was cloudy and hazed in and out as he heard frantic voices.

"He was bit, Mark! I… I think it was the Cercocebus viridis!"

"He's sweating and burning up! And his pulse is out of control! These are signs of a poisonous snake bite!"

"But look at his veins, Mark! And the color around the wound! It's Sakutia!"

"Green fever. A disease almost as rare as the cercocebus virdis. Humans can't survive it."

"Mark, what are we going to do!? It's going to kill him!"

"No it's not. Aristotle said the differences between man and animal were moral and ontological. But that's not entirely true. Our DNA differs by only one point six percent from the common chimp. If we can complete our research and create a link… a missing link from animal to man… then we can save him."

"Mark, that could kill him if we're wrong!"

"And the Sakutia definitely will if we don't try, Marie!"

"Fine, DO IT!"

"It's okay son, you're going to be okay."

"Oh my baby, my Garfield…"

"Garfield? Garfield?" Victor repeated as he snapped his fingers in front of his unresponsive friend's face.

"Is he okay?" Asked Kori.

"He seems to be in some sort of trance." Richard observed.

"Garfield!" Victor yelled snapping his finger again and this time it woke him. Garfield quickly started to blink as his expression went back to normal.

"Garfield." Kori said in relief.

"Man, are you okay?" Victor asked.

"What happened?" Richard questioned.

Garfield got up off the cot and without a word left the medical bay, leaving his friends complexed and without an answer.
