Jackson is my original character, but I don't own CSI.
Lil Badger 101, you gave me this idea so this story's for you :)
And I'm celebrating my Mom's birthday with a new Jackson story :)
In my story, "Pictures And Family," Jackson mentions that Morgan sang him a lullaby when he had a bad dream. That, plus I thought it was high time for a new Jackson and Morgan story, lead to this fic. I wondered how Morgan might comfort her adopted son after a nightmare, so this is what I came up with. Hope you all enjoy...and please review!
One night, Morgan Brody sat with her laptop computer, catching up on e-mails and trying to relax. She and her husband, Greg Sanders, had worked a long week. Greg was still at the lab, working to close a case, so Morgan was at home with their son Jackson.
Morgan closed her laptop and sighed quietly when she heard Jackson crying. She got up and went to Jackson's room and found him sitting up in bed, crying.
"Mama," he whimpered.
"What's the matter, sweet pea?"
"I hadda bad dream."
Morgan walked over, sat on Jackson's bed and pulled the little boy into her arms. "It was just a dream, honey. Are you okay?"
Jackson shook his head and looked up at Morgan. "Dere was a monster, an' he chased me an' I couldn't find you or daddy!"
Running her hand through Jackson's red hair, Morgan smiled softly. "Oh, I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere. And daddy's at work, but he'll be home pretty soon."
"How soon?"
"He called me a little while ago, and told me he was getting some work done at the lab, and he'd be home soon."
Jackson pouted. "You stay?"
"Of course, I will."
Morgan smiled softly as Jackson wrapped his arms tighter around her and snuggled against her. She cradled the sweet boy in her arms.
As she was cradling her now calmer son, Morgan thought of how her mother would comfort her when she was Jackson's age. She remembered the song, "Dream A Little Dream," and began humming it.
Jackson brought his head up and looked at Morgan. "What's dat, mama?"
Morgan smiled. "That is a song my mom used to sing to me when I was about your age. It's called Dream A Little Dream."
Jackson thought for a moment and nodded. "I like it." As he laid his head back on Morgan's shoulder, he asked, "Did your mommy sing it for you when you had a bad dream?"
"Mm-hmm." She smiled as Jackson got comfortable.
"How does it go, mama?" Jackson asked with a yawn.
Morgan took a deep breath and sang quietly.
"Stars shining bright above you, night breezes seem to whisper 'I love you,'
Birds singing in the sycamore tree, dream a little dream of me."
Morgan couldn't remember the all the words of the song, so she sang what she remembered and hummed the parts she didn't know.
Looking down at the sleeping little boy in her arms, Morgan smiled. She remembered how she felt when she took a chance to move to Vegas, and now had a family she loved and extended family at the lab. Watching the little red-haired boy in her arms falling asleep, she felt more blessed than she ever imagined.
A small smile crossed Jackson's face as he drifted off to sleep in Morgan's arms. He didn't remember too much about his biological mother, but Morgan was his Mama and he loved her and his father with all his heart.
Morgan smiled as she cradled Jackson in her arms and continued humming the song for him. She never knew one little boy could make her feel so blessed, and never imagined she could love anyone as much as Jackson and Greg.
The End.
