I braved the enduring climb of Mt. Silver for him.

Not to prove I was better but because I needed to see him.

I trained to excruciating extents because I knew that he would want a battle, and It wouldn't be easy, not to prove anything.

I know that he would get that, I mean we've been friends for over 10 years.

Yet how come he's just standing there, waiting for me to leave, I beat him, I broke his "Vow Of Silence"

Yet why won't he say anything? Why won't he do anything? Why is he just standing there? Did I do something wrong?

My brown hair flies across my face, I pull it away to keep it out of my eyes

Finally I tire of waiting, and I speak, "Red?" My voice is raspy, "Are you OK?"

He shakes his head, "Go," he mutters to the point I barely hear it.

"What are you waiting for, you won, don't you wanna go brag about it?"

I shake my head. "Why would I do that Red? I just wanted to bring you back home to Kanto, everyone misses you, or at least I do,"

He smiles a little "Do they now?"

I nod "So will you come back?"

"No," The response almost kills me, "I'm still not the best, and until I know I am, I am staying,"

The cold is worsening and I'm starting to shiver, but instead of wrapping his jacket around me like he would usually do, he just grins, "You should probably get going girlie, the little forest girl shouldn't be out in the snow too long,"

Forest Girl, the pet name he gave me when he found me lying exhausted in Viridian Forest; It now just sounds cruel.

I walk closer to him, "What happened to the Red I knew, the one who wouldn't know rudeness if it bit him in the ass?"

"He's gone sweetheart, long gone,"

Now he just sounds like an asshole. But I still know the Red I know is still there, The one who knew what hell I was running from, the one who convinced Prof. Oak to give me a Squirtle, the one who helped me catch my Weedle, Caterpie, and Vulpix. And most importantly, the one who kissed me under my favorite tree in Viridian Forest and told me that when he came back from Mt. Silver he'd take me somewhere away from Kanto and give me something to live for, like I didn't have him already.

I shake my head, "No" I mutter "He's still there," I mutter and I find myself stroking his cheek "I know it,"

"Oh really?" He says, "Prove it,"

So I prove it to him the only way I can think of. I close the distance between us and kiss him. I can tell by his reaction, how he wraps his arms around me and kisses back, that the Red I know and love is still alive just that all the time apart changed him.

But he's still there.

We pull apart and breathe for a moment and then he whispers, "Leaf, I'm sorry for being gone so long,"

I shake my head, "It's not your fault," I say, knowing its true.

"Now come on, Lets get you back to Kanto,"
