Bird-Watching

She's taken up birdwatching. It's a nice, quiet hobby and it helps her appreciate the floral arrangements her mother's always doing, and always teaching her. But the reason isn't related to the flower shop, or her mother.

The reason is Piyomon. Because those native Tokyo birds don't hold the candle to Piyomon but they make her nostalgic anyway. They remind her of Piyomon flying low or even just walking by her side. They remind her of the gorgeous firebird she'd become when she digivolved. They reminded her of all the flights they'd shared.

And when she dropped some crumbs for them to nibble on and they'd peck at each other for the last of them, she'd remember all the seemingly childish fights she and her friends got in to. Not the real fights. Not the battles against their enemies, but the scuffles they had with each other. Like whether to climb Infinity Mountain or not. Or who was better fit to be leader. Actually, both of those were Taichi and Yamato – but it wasn't like they were the only ones who fought. She'd yelled at them plenty of times after all – but now some of those scenes made her giggle. She saw them differently, from this side of the road. They were precious memories now.

The Digital World and all the adventures, and quiet times, were precious memories. And Piyomon was the most precious of them all. Piyomon: more vibrant and beautiful than those birds – but the human world didn't have anything that measured up to her, and the birds were the closest thing.
