X-23/Dante. 300 word one-shot. She was controlled by the rage and scent that triggered her killing senses. He was possessed by a demon that lay hidden inside him. She was the only one with regret who understood. He was the only one who wanted to help.

Rage Trigger

Laura stared down at the ground, then back up at the devil hunter looming over her. Her heart was pounding as the rain fell onto her tear stained face, her back pressed against the ground. She was an assassin: a powerful weapon used only for mass destruction and killing. She couldn't bring herself to kill the man in the red trench coat within the sixty minute time limit. Even with the trigger scent splattered all over him, she couldn't do it. He just understood her so well, yet he acted as if he had a powerful rage trigger within himself.

Devil Trigger

Dante frowned as he carefully sat on top of her fallen figure, his blood-stained trench coat enveloping them in unusual warmth. She shivered at the contact and stared up at him with crimson eyes, obviously uncomfortable. With a grimace still plastered onto his face, Dante leaned down and held her crumpled figure tightly in his arms, apologizing for what he had done. Pain suddenly etched across his face as he whispered words of comfort into her ear. He had nearly killed her, but forced himself to stop before landing the killing blow. He knew why he stopped… because of her.

Final Trigger

She moaned softly in his ear due to pain yet his arms were wrapped around her gently. Why, oh why, wasn't her regeneration healing working? She stared up into his eyes, wondering why he hadn't killed her yet. He stared down at her, his eyes narrowing in worry and pain. Suddenly, it clicked. Laura grabbed at his shoulders and held him, Dante doing the same as he clutched her closer to his bare chest, both ignoring the pouring rain. They were both assigned with the same job – kill the other. But it was impossible. No one else understood the pain.

Note: I have never played Devil May Cry, and I have yet to finish X-23's comics so please excuse me if this contradicts either one.
