Cybil entered the theater-and looked up to the stage. There was a piano there and there was a girl, younger than her but Cybil wasn't how much younger, wearing a blue uniform, sitting in front of it. Slowly, her fingers descended towards the keys…Cybil recognized that music-she had a secret weakness for Phantom of the Opera.
The opening came to an end and the girl's fingers slowed as she moved onto a different piece. "Music of the night"- Cybil recovered herself and moved forward- "Hey you, this place isn't safe."
The girl didn't respond, fingers moving over the keys, the tune sounding even sadder than Cybil remembered.
She pulled herself up onto the stage and approached the girl, who darted a glance at her but didn't move.
"Hey, didn't you hear me? This place isn't safe. Let's get you out of here."
"…I can't leave."
"Why not? Are you waiting for someone?"
The girl shook her head, still playing. "…he won't come. Not even if I wait for a thousand years-he doesn't like this place. He won't ever come back here."
"He?"
The girl ducked her head, embarrassed. "…you shouldn't be here, Miss. You should leave. It's not safe."
"I've noticed." Cybil said, a bit dryly. "But I'm a cop. It's my job to protect people, and there are still people in this town that I can help."
"Then-why didn't you make him leave?"
"Who? The guy you're waiting for?"
She shook her head again. "No-he left a long time ago. Why didn't you make D-Harry leave?"
Cybil stared at her. "How did you know that? Did you meet him too? Is he in this building?"
"No-he's not here-"
"Where did you meet him?"
She turned back to the keyboard. "I didn't-I've never met him-you should make him leave. His daughter-Cheryl isn't here anymore."
"What are you talking about?"
"…she's dead."
"What? How?"
"A fire-there was a fire. They pulled her out but it was too late." she pulled her hands away from the keys and looked towards Cybil once more. "It's too late for her- too late for me. But Miss, it's not too late for you, not too late for-Harry. Please take him and leave this town." and then she began walking away.
"Wait!-"
And then she began running and disappeared into the darkness.
