"Dammit!" Carlos exclaimed, running his hand under the cool water after burning himself for the second time. It was Valentine's Day and Carlos was trying to make breakfast in bed for his boyfriend of six months, Logan.
He had planned to make something relatively simple, just eggs bacon and some toast. He was failing miserably. He had burned the toast, splattered the grease from the bacon everywhere, and the eggs were sticking to the pan. Carlos looked at the mess in front of him and sighed. He'd have to start over.
Ten minutes later Carlos had finished with the bacon, the eggs were almost ready and the toast was in the toaster. Just when he thought he was actually going to pull it off the fire detector started screeching. Carlos turned around to see smoke pouring from the toaster. He'd forgotten about the toast, again.
Carlos grabbed a dish towel and started waving it, trying to get the smoke away from the alarm. Just as the beeping stopped, Carlos heard the door to his and Logan's bedroom open. Carlos rushed to meet Logan before he approached the kitchen.
"What was that?" Logan asked sleepily. Carlos wrapped an arm around Logan, trying to usher him back into the bedroom. "It was nothing. Go back to bed."
"But I heard the fire alarm, is everything okay? " He asked grabbing Carlos' hand. Carlos flinched away.
Logan's eyes widened. "What happened to your hand? Are you ok?" He grabbed Carlos' wrist and turned his hand over so he could get a better look. "Did you burn yourself?"
Carlos sighed. He knew Logan wouldn't let it go, especially since he had hurt himself. "I was trying to surprise you with breakfast in bed but I burnt myself and then the toast. That's why the alarm went off. I'm sorry I woke you up, I just wanted to surprise you" Carlos mumbled, looking at the floor.
Logan smiled and took Carlos' uninjured hand. "You went to all that trouble for me?"
Carlos shrugged. "Yeah, but I ruined it. I wanted today to be special."
Logan stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Carlos' neck. "You didn't ruin anything. It was so sweet of you to try and surprise me like that."
Carlos wrapped his arms around Logan's waist. "I just wanted to make you happy."
"Baby, I am happy. I have you. That's all I need." Logan leaned forward to seal their lips together.
"Maybe next time let's leave the cooking to me." Logan smirked, pulling away.
Carlos nodded in agreement. "How about I make us some nice, safe cereal and bring it to you in bed?"
"That might work." Logan agreed "I love you, you know."
Carlos grinned. "I know, I love you too. Now get in bed so I can surprise you!"
Logan walked back into their bedroom, chuckling the whole way.
