Hi! This is not my first fanfic ever but it is my first for the Mentalist. English in not my mother tongue, so sorry for any mistakes.
This is just a small scene I decided to write for fun. No copyright infringment intended.
A Black corset
The first case that Lisbon, Jane, Kim Fischer and Cho worked on as a team was a murder that took place in San Francisco. The murder itself wasn't unusual: a single gunshot wound to the chest. The fact that the victim was a diplomat from North Korea and that the murder had taken place in a Sex Shop in a very shady area of the city made it rather special…
The FBI had been called to investigate and Dennis Abbot had given very direct orders to Jane to be especially discreet in this case. Lisbon could barely keep her face straight as she heard this. It was like telling a little kid NOT to touch candy!
As they arrived at the crime scene the local officers and some representatives of the Embassy were there and as Lisbon and Fisher heard a brief description of the preliminary findings, Cho moved to talk to the Crime Scene people and Jane started perusing the shop. He stopped to admire lingerie on a mannequin. It was a very sexy red corset with stockings and a whip. He looked towards Lisbon with a very obvious appreciative look at her body and smiled. She noticed him, but pretended not to as she was trying to pay attention to what the very concerned Public Relations of the Korean Embassy was saying. Fischer also saw his look and immediately looked upset. This was too much of a temptation for Jane!
He said out loud: "So Lisbon, your birthday is coming up, isn't it?".
Fischer immediately lashed out in a low voice: "Jane! Keep quiet!"
Lisbon didn't say anything. She very quickly ended the conversation she was having and moved towards Jane. As she hadn't heard Fischer's response she felt like playing a little bit with the situation. Making sure no one outside their FBI group heard she said: "Why Jane, you know I prefer black!" They both laughed at her response. Jane was very amused. This new relaxed sassy Lisbon really pleased him!
Fischer was completely surprised as the usually quiet Lisbon gave this answer. "Do I need to send you a memo about personal relations between FBI agents!?". She looked furious and ready to embark on a long speech.
Lisbon felt embarrassed and ashamed of how a stupid little joke was being taken.
Jane was quick to answer as he didn't like the way Fischer spoke or the effect her words had had on Lisbon. "Actually you don't have to: Lisbon is a Special Agent and I am a mere Consultant. We can do whatever we want in our own free time. I checked." His voice was calm, but his eyes had lost their amused expression and looked cold.
Lisbon was completely surprised by Jane's words. Had he really checked? Was he really considering this?
Fischer was momentarily rendered speechless.
Luckily the situation was saved by Cho. He started talking in a matter of fact voice about some technical details pertaining blood splatter, as if the whole "corset conversation" had not taken place. Realizing she was in a situation that could easily get out of hands Fischer took the opportunity to start reviewing the case and to distribute tasks among the team.
Lisbon and Jane were told to talk to the store clerk. As they were moving towards the end of the store to do this, Lisbon whispered: "Be careful, it is never a good idea to poke a tiger".
"Don't worry, I am not afraid of her and it's best that she learns from the start not to get between us".
Again Lisbon, was a little surprised and very pleased with Jane's protective speech. They looked in each other's eyes and shared a smile.
"So black leather its is!" Jane added with a wink.
As the store clerk was already very near her, Lisbon didn't answer and just smiled.
This new job in the FBI was sure going to be more exciting that her last job. Just remained to be seen in what levels...
