Burning Fury
By: Lord Rosenheim
It is done. My deed is complete. I am wounded, jailed and am going on the executioner's block tomorrow. But it's all worth it. He is dead. The one who has hurt me and my reputation so much. He is dead, along with another person, an innocent. You see, I was hired to kill a rich nobleman. Yes, that's right, HIRED. You see, I'm an assassin by job, or a mercenary, hell, call me whatever you want, as long as I kill. This nobleman was my best job yet. Traps, Soldiers Iron Doors, he had the works. I dodged pit- traps, poisoned men's drinks, took half-an-hour to open every door. When I entered his bedchamber, who did I see? There were two people in the room, and one of them was dead. You guess which one. The other stood tall, sneering at my pitiful attempts to beat him there. Yes. That was his name. Taur Grenefeild. Another assassin. He cost me a lot of money. He thought he would get away. But he wasn't done. He called the guards, quickly disappearing before my eyes. So now, my saga begins.
"Stop that murderer!" "SEIZE HIM! SEIZE HIM!" "HURRY! DON'T LET HIM GET TO THE DOOR!" All similar sounds, except they were aimed at me. My breath was quick as I fled from the guards. The traps were nothing; I just had to watch where I was going. Unfortunate, since my current weapons didn't stand a chance up against their armor and swords. One trap was a poisonous dart, which stung instantly the moment it hit me. I couldn't stop now. Besides, my body has a natural resistance to poison, but I'm still not immune. I ran blindly, remembering where traps were, so I could dodge them. The guards were still shouting, but I couldn't hear what they were saying. Not until I heard one thing loud and clear. "HE'S HEADING FOR THE MASTER'S ARENA!" Perfect I thought; until I entered it. A man was standing there grimly, in the center of the arena, chained down with only a small spear to defend with. The other thing had horns, and tusks, plus gigantic muscles. He was fighting an Umber Hulk. I don't know where it came from, but it came. It was horrible. The man's spear broke on its hide, and he was gored four times before he hit the ground. The Umber Hulk's tusks were designed in a special way to hit all the vital areas. There was only one way out of this building. The Beast Chamber. It was all I had, but it was closer to that Umber Hulk then I ever wanted to be. Oh well. I threw myself into the ring, rushing for the gate. The Umber Hulks flailing arms caught me first. I was thrown against the wall, sporting a bad bruise, and the creature. Oh, he charged me, and I thought I saw Satan's face on his forehead. Still, mustering every muscle in my body to move, I jumped. Thank god for enhanced skills. My body flew up and over his gruesome mass, and before I landed behind him, his tusks were driven into the wall, which held them fast. I started running toward the door, but not without an arrow in my back. An archer hit me in midair, and struck me between the shoulder blade and the throat, I almost died then and there. But I didn't. I charged in the Beast Chamber, avoiding raking claws and glistening fangs. I made it outside the complex, but went two blocks before I collapsed. The arrow was poisoned as well. With the dart and the arrow combined would have killed anyone by now. But my body fought it. I was weak, but still alive. Barely...
