A/N: I ship Jane/Heimdall. I don't know if that's weird or what but yes, I ship it. That one moment of interaction had as much chemistry (to me at least) as Thor and Loki do.
Heimdall watched the little Midgardian Thor was so interested in smile like she'd been given the universe as she tumbled out into his observatory through the Bifrost.
"We have to do that again." The almost breathless, giggled words moved him.
This was someone who sought to see the universe, the Realms, as he could.
All his life Heimdall had been feared and pitied for his abilities. It was awe inspiring, yes, but to be so stationary, to have so dull a job as to be Asgard's watchdog to spend so much of his time simply watching. No the Aesir did not envy him his life, nor his abilities. They did not, could not see the beauty in the stars, the lives, the worlds that he did.
And here was one who so desperately wanted to. The Allfather would be annoyed to say the least with him for letting a mortal into their midst and not just any mortal but Thor's favoured one, the one who was the spanner in the Allfather's plans for Sif and Thor but Heimdall did not care.
If his suspicions were right then the mortal was dying, she deserved this much at least.
And so he smiled.
"Welcome to Asgard."
