All she knows is he tells her she's incandescent, and she's in a dingy bar with nothing to do, and she's fifteen years old but looks like she's twenty.

And he looks young – mid thirties, and he buys her a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon after she smirks at him, and laughs when she gags at the taste.

"Hey, I'm Dev," he says, all lilting voice and bedroom eyes. "Now, how about something different?"

She doesn't choose a poison, just attaches her lips to his and ends up in the "captain's" bathroom, having his fingers trail their way up her thigh. She squirms against him, and his eyes shine through the shadow she casts upon him.

"You remind me of someone I used to know," he says, quietly.

She kisses him, unzipping his pants while gently biting his lower lip. She pulls away, looking him right in the eyes, "Am I better?"

"God," he says, choking on a laugh as she touches him. "You're better."

"Am I the best?" she asks, pulling her skirt up.

He sees her black underwear and almost faints, "Yes. Dear God, yes."

"Tell me," she says. "Tell me I'm the best."

"You're the fucking best. I could live off you."

She kisses him and their teeth knock into each other, but it's still the best kiss of his fucking life. When she pulls away, she tells him, "You're going to remember me forever."

She shimmies out of her underwear and he's so numb that she has to pull his down for him.

"Are you going to remember me?" she says, wrapping her legs around him, and yet, looking at him like a lost girl.

"I can't think of a reason why I would ever forget you," he says, sincerely, and this is enough for her.

She puts a quarter in the machine next to them and rolls the condom that comes out over him. The softness of her fingers bumping against him are enough to make him come right then.

"Oh," Jade mumbles, looking at her sticky fingers. She looks disappointed, and part of him feels like a prepubescent boy – ashamed and embarrassed, he almost pulls away.

"No you don't!" Jade says, pulling him right back in. Her grasp feels like that of an octopus, and he gives in instantly. She smirks, her hooded eyes looking right into his, "You have to be kind to me now."

"My wife died," he says suddenly.

"I'm not here for sob stories," Jade says before kissing him again.

He ends up getting it back up for them to actually fuck, but he was always kind of expecting he would be able to with her.

Afterward, he asks her name.

"Guess," she says as she shimmies on her underwear.

"Give me a hint," he says, pulling her taut against him. He kisses her ear. He sees her almost smile in the mirror.

"It's important." As he kisses her neck, she adds, "Ancient."

"I don't know," he says. "I can only think of stone – and that's definitely not your name."

He laughs, but she pulls away from him.

"You lost," she says.

Her eyes are dull. He sees how young she is, now, and gulps.

"Uhm," he says, rubbing his neck, "Will I see you around, Stone?"

She rolls her eyes, opens the door, and turns back to him, "Probably not."

He goes back to the bar and buys himself another drink.

Only a few months later, he finds her in his living room. Her fingers are intertwined in his son's and she's laughing with her hand covering her mouth.

Beck jumps up when he sees his dad is home and smiles too brightly, "Dad! This is my girlfriend."

Dev only stares at her when she stands up, arm extending, hand reaching out to grasp his.

"I'm Jade," she says, smiling. "Nice to meet you."
