As Long As You Are Happy, I Am Happy Too
It was another hot day in Los Angeles. That's why everyone spent the day outside. Everyone except Carlos Garcia. He was sitting on the orange couch in Apartment 2J, staring out of the window at the pool. Logan lay on one of the pool loungers and basked. Carlos couldn't help it. He had to watch him. Logan wore sunglasses and a t-shirt over his shorts, despite the heat. Carlos regretted that very much.
He had feelings for Logan for a long time. It wasn't easy to live with that, but Carlos accepted that. Contrary to what his friends always said, he was a pretty good actor. Nobody had noticed anything yet. He often called Logan "wimp" or "coward," but he didn't mean it that way. And he hoped Logan knew that. Carlos had often thought about what would happen when Logan heard about his feelings. Carlos was sure Logan wouldn't end their friendship because of that. Maybe he even understood. But he would never tell Logan the truth. The reason was simple. He didn't want Logan to be unhappy. There was only one thing in the world that made Logan happy. More precisely, someone. And that someone was Camille. Carlos knew how happy she made Logan. He saw it in Logan's beautiful, bright eyes. He loved her with all his heart.
Carlos's thoughts were interrupted as he saw Logan suddenly straighten up. Even from that distance, Carlos could see his irresistible smile. That smile made his heart beat faster. Logan's attention turned to Camille, who approached him. She sat down next to him on the pool lounger and kissed him gently. Carlos loved Logan. Nevertheless, he felt no jealousy. It was a mixed feeling. Half mourning, half happiness. He continued to watch the two. Logan looked relaxed and happy. That made Carlos happy too.
Some time later, Logan stretched and stood up. He said something to Camille and she shook her head. Logan shrugged, smiled, and gave her a kiss. Then he waved to her and disappeared towards the lobby. Carlos got lost in his thoughts again. He wondered if Logan was a good kisser and how it would feel if his soft and perfect lips were on Carlos's own. Then he sighed and shook his head. He would never know. But that was fine.
The door suddenly opened and Logan stood in front of him. Strangely, this time without a t-shirt. He held it crumpled in his hand. Carlos had to be strong not to stare at Logan's upper body. Instead, he grinned and asked, "Well, dude, did Camille make you so hot you had to get rid of your shirt?"
Logan shook his head and closed the door. Then he sat down next to Carlos and hit his helmet. "Stop that nonsense."
Carlos saw that he had blushed slightly. That made him even sweeter. Logan continued, "In the lobby, some kids threw their smoothies at me. No idea why."
Carlos had to laugh. Logan, on the other hand, didn't feel like laughing. Carlos noticed that and stopped. "Sorry, Logan. But you have to admit it's funny."
Logan shrugged. "Yes, may be." Then he was silent. Was he offended?
"Are you mad at me now?"
Logan looked at him uncertainly. Carlos's heart beat faster. Then Logan shook his head. "No, I'm not mad at you. But … maybe you're mad at me."
"Why should I be angry?" Carlos asked, puzzled. What was going on now?
"Well, in the last few days, I haven't had much time for you guys. I was always on the road with Camille. I thought you might be mad at me for that."
Carlos couldn't believe it. Was Logan so worried about that? He wanted to hug him. Instead, he laughed and put a hand on Logan's shoulder. "No problem, man."
"Really?" Logan asked, relieved, and finally smiled. Carlos couldn't get enough of that smile. "Of course not. That's the way it is when you're in love. And Camille is fantastic."
Logan's beautiful eyes beamed at the mention of this name. "Yes, isn't she? She's really great."
Carlos smiled and felt his heart tighten. "You really love her, don't you?" He asked. Logan nodded. "Yes, I do. She is the only one for me. She makes me so happy."
"I know," Carlos said outwardly, sighing inwardly. Logan smiled and stood up. "I'm going to take a shower." But before he left, he put a hand on Carlos's shoulder and said, "Thank you for understanding, Carlitos. That means a lot to me."
Carlos swallowed hard and waved off. "No problem. That's what best friends are for." He raised his hand and Logan hit. Then he turned and went to the bathroom.
'Of course I understand it,' Carlos thought. 'Maybe even better than you.'
That's what it was about when you fell in love, right? You just want to do everything so that the other person is happy. Yes, that's exactly what it was about. Because as long as Logan was happy, Carlos was happy too.
