It was brief.
Confusion and concern quickly overpowered it, pushing it down, below the pit in his stomach.
But for a second there was a ball of warmth growing in his stomach, obstructing his throat, threatening to fill his eyes.
His heart skipped and beat stronger.
No six words had ever caused this feeling.
"I am so proud of you."
His world came crashing down not half an hour later.
Grief, fear and pain took over from confusion and concern.
But, maybe eventually, he'd reach down and try and find that feeling again.
Examine it.
Treasure it.
But not now.
