Once upon a time, there was a very poor man who lived with his daughter who was named Konata. Now, Konata and her father loved anime and games, but since they were poor, they usually had to rely on getting them as gifts from others. So, one Christmas Eve, while Konata's father was out for a job interview, Konata snuck out with a bag. She ran all the way to the middle of the village and, in a loud voice, she shouted "Would someone please donate some anime to me? I need a present for my Dad, but I haven't got the money for it. Please, would someone donate?" The people ignored her, as the ones who weren't interested in anime had none to give, and the ones who were had no intention of giving up their hard-earned things for free.
Konata, who knew that there was always at least one otaku in every crowd, shouted "I know you're there, anime-lovers! Please donate! Please!" However, this just caused the otaku to flee, as they felt guilty when they looked upon Konata's face, and they didn't want to feel like that, especially on Christmas Eve. Soon, the middle of the town was only filled with people who had no idea what anime was, and Konata's pleas for anime remained ignored. However, one woman with glasses and long brown hair gave Konata a pack of matches and told her to go home before she froze to death. Konata took the matches, but instead of going home, she sat in the snow and kept yelling her plea. She kept shouting until there was almost no one left on the streets.
Konata shivered, the cold of the night hitting her. She didn't want to go home empty-handed, so she lit a match to warm herself up a bit. However, when she lit the match, she saw a large box of anime right next to her. She reached for it, but as she did, the match went out and the box disappeared. Determined to find out what was going on, Konata lit another match, but instead of a box of anime popping out, this time a large Christmas tree bloomed before her. The moment Konata reached for it, it vanished as the match flickered out. Konata suddenly realized the connection between the matches and the visions, and lit a third match. This time, Konata's dead mother appeared before her. "M-mom!" Konata's eyes filled with tears, and she lit all the matches as she leapt into her mothers arms.
The next morning, the townspeople found Konata's frozen body right where she was sitting. "Poor thing…she was out here all night looking for a donation.." A pile of matches were scattered near Konata, and a smile could be seen upon her face.
